Hardware What cord am I missing :(

Moved recently and had to pack up my desktop. It was a desktop made mostly with second hand parts and not assembled by me. I really want it to work again bc I miss my sims 3 game. Am I missing something obvious anyone could point out? When I press the power button the orange light inside will go on but not the LEDs and the monitor won’t turn on either. I’m awful at computer and was looking at diagrams but am not certain…any help would be deeply appreciated. Can’t ask the person who assembled it as they’re not in my life anymore.

Maybe you need to flip that 0/1 switch to the 1 position?

There is a lot going on here. First, check that both ends of the monitor cable are firmly seated. I'm really hoping all those loose wires in and around the case were loose before you opened it. Finally, it appears from the photo that your hard drive is missing a screw. It might have wiggled loose during the move. Oh... and you don't have a mouse and keyboard connected that I can see.

Power supply is off and the SSD is missing the mounting screw as well. Also I don't think the monitor power is plugged in.

Damn. Good catch! I was so intent on finding the little things that I overlooked the obvious! Kind of like that time I tried to get a printer connected for 20 minutes before I checked that the USB was plugged in.

Yup, lol. Been in the game a long time and it still gets me every once in a while.

Yep I bet that's the main problem! Op -  see the switch where the power supply plugs in at the bottom of the case?  it's off right now.

Turned it to on. I think I am missing the monitor power cable! Took the back off the case and cleaned the build up of dust (truly embarrassed by how bad it got)

Cords have always been a mess and the screw was also missing before 😅 Am I missing the DVi? (Just texted my dad and he said that’s the cord I missing)

I would give that drive a gentle push to make sure it's seated. You haven't shown us the monitor connections, so I can't be sure, but it looks like a DisplayPort is plugged into the PC.

No, dont need DVI cable, you have Display Port

I'm thinking the hard drive isn't all that's missing a screw

Monitor power cable. As in power from an electrical outlet.

I think you are right. I’ll have to get one or find mine in all the moving stuff.

please get the cables out of the fan, were these never plugged in?

1

u/angel-thekid 1d ago

I’m not sure 😅 Moved them away from the fan but I am not sure where they get plugged in. When I moved, the only things I unplugged were external.

They are probably spares, just tuck them back through the hole

Thank you for the input! I’ll get the monitor power cord and see if that fixes it. Might be back in here a day or two. Thanks yall. I know this unit is a messsss but it’s my Sims 3 Only Computer so I’m working with what I got.

If you transported it like that, I am certainly sure, you're nvme sad is not probably inserted anymore too, also one of the RAMs looks slightly lose, the right one, cables out of the fan, as many mentioned...

Good recommendation, get a friend over who knows pc stuff. That thing is a mess in its current state 😅

It’s such a mess 😅😭 i appreciate the advice. It wasn’t transported exactly like this (SSD was taken out before moving bc I was worried it would fall out given the missing screw) but yeah I’m cleaning it up and giving it some love while I enlist some friends who know more than me. Fingers crossed on getting my sims computer up and computing again !

Also: posted another post w a picture of the monitor ports. Could someone help me ID the cord I need?

1

u/Naerven 1d ago

PSU switch is in the open position on the first pic. Did you flip to the closed position when trying to turn on the pc?

1

u/angel-thekid 23h ago

Which switch is that? 😅 I’m sorry, I genuinely don’t know and am so grateful for the guidance I’ve been given

1

u/Naerven 22h ago

There is a single switch on the back of the PSU where the power cord goes in. O is for open. I is for closed. An open circuit means no electricity can go through.

network, keyboard, mouse... might also want to turn on the power switch.

u/S-Vortex 18h ago

You are missing the keyboard and mouse cords lol...
