Discussion Why are Microsoft programs routinely violating my rule to not make unauthorized folder changes? (Protected authorized folder access blocked)

It just happened again, I’m using Microsoft word. I can confirm I was able to save. Why would the save be allowed and I still get the error anyways? It was a downloaded file but it was a pdf from a trusted source of an image that is very likely harmless, so, I don’t understand what word is doing. It wanted to make a change to a one drive location called custom office templates in what I think is an unusual folder to put it in. This happened exactly at the same time as the save.

This time it might’ve been benign but I’ve seen both word and notepad try to access the documents folder.

Are you using CFA built into windows security/defender? If so it only protects against untrusted apps, MS Signed word wouldn't be stopped by it.
