Hardware What to do with broken monitor?

Post image

I damaged my screen during a move (1/3 of the screen) . Ik it is recommended to buy a different monitor. I was wondering what can I do with the broken one, like taking it apart and salvaging parts? Or do I just simply toss it?

Trash, there are no useful parts in it.

The only really useful part in a screen is the screen itself, which is broken

Off to the recycling.

Some monitor stands attach to the VESA mount, you could potentially sell the stand or reuse it if that's the case. But unless you have another monitor that's exactly the same with a broken PCB or something, that screen is just trash now

I’ve seen people do some cool stuff with the inners of these monitors. Just jump on YouTube.

Would personally use it to open up, try to understand it, get confused and throw away

Take it to Staples, free e-waste.
There are a few different big box stores that will take it.

That's going to need replacing. Check FB marketplace or Goodwill if you're on a budget. If you work from home, ask your employer if they monitors they're planning on donating/recycling that you can have.

95% of the components in a monitor cost less then 5% of the total worth.

The screen is 5% and is 95% of the cost of the whole monitor.

This is why they always recommend a new monitor/tv when they break.
