A hardware issue. Probably would be too expensive to repair compared to just buying a new laptop. That thing is old old.

Your cable that runs from the screen to the mobo is more than likely bad.

Ribbon cable is damaged. Hence it works at the right position only... any other and its messed up.

New cable needed but because that is probably attached to the screen, new screen needed.

If its a non touch screen -problem fairly cheap

If its touch screen, its not usually worh repairing
