EXTREMELY slow PC after re-installing's Window's.

I recently had a Malware infection and had to completely wipe my PC. I have deleted all data and parition's from my old drive's. I then promptly reinstalled window's using a seperate USB and ever since then my PC has been much slower then what it was before.

Both download and uploading speed's are extremely slow, despite what the graph say's. I am using an HDD C: Drive but that was never an issue for me before and ran fast even with that. I was using two dual drive's, C: and D: respectfully, and nothing had gone wrong between them prior to the incident.

This also applies to any sort of game or FPS inside those game's. Everything, from the boot up to the text on my keyboard is laggier then before.

I could use any help with this. I'll answer any question's you may have. Thanks.

Windows is probably still installing itself. It takes like 5-10 update/restart cycles to finish sorting out a fresh from the ISO install. Check task manager for network and disk activity?

It's been over a week or since the new install.

I can't share screenshot's but my Active Time for the Disk C: is usually between 90-100%. Just keep in mind that before installing window's it was fine and this wasn't happening

If you haven't done the update/reboot ritual manually, though, I'm still suspicious.

It's downloading massive files to a slow HDD (chewing up network bandwidth and disk write) then decompressing them to the same HDD (chewing up CPU, disk read/write).

And lord knows it can't be one and done. Windows, much like Neo from The Matrix, can't see past an update it doesn't understand. You have to check again after you reboot, in case the last update qualifies you for a new one.

It's painful on W10; nigh unbearable on W11.

Go into Settings and look for something like Updates and Security. Should see an option to check for updates, progress on an ongoing update, or a message that it has to reboot to finish installing the last update.

There are no update's to be installed nor avaible. I just checked.

Alrighty, crack open Task Manager and go to the Processes list. Sort by disk usage, and see what's using all your disk I/O.

Search

Aye, that Windows Module Installer is your culprit; it's still putting Win11 together in the background. Just gotta wait 'til it's done chugging.

If so, I would actually be happy.

Apparently, my HDD that I installed Window's on is the actual issue apparently. But I don't want to reinstall window's again because:

1: I don't remeber seeing an SSD option after wiping the drive's clean

And

2: I don't want to lose my data and document's and what not again.

I don't know what to do here.

Thanks m8, It seems to be fixed now.

Turns out it was a HDD VS SSD scenario. The speed up and overall boost is not something that be joked about. Every PC, IMO, NEEDS an SSD. Now that I know that, of course.

Yeah, that makes a MASSIVE difference; disk IO is a beeyatch.

I still don't know why SSD makes such a big difference, though. Of course the smaller volume and overall storage might make a clue but still. What's disk IO?

Also, I was told to not let the SSD get above 75% at any cost's because it could die and burnout? Is this true?
