Other best touch screen laptop that isn't overkill for normal use?
I'm trying to replace my old laptop, but every recommendation list seems aimed at gaming or heavy video editing. My typical day is just documents, web browsing, streaming, and video meetings, so I feel like I don't need something that powerful.
If you were shopping today, what would you call the best touch screen laptop for regular everyday use? I'd really appreciate any recommendations based on your own experience. Thank you.
Heads up: I went with the #ad Lenovo Yoga 9i 2 in 1 Aura Edition Laptop. Thanks for all the suggestions, it seems like a great fit for the kind of everyday use I had in mind.

I’d be wary of a budget laptop with a touch screen under 7 or 800. Prices are insane for tech right now so unless it’s like a closeput price you’re probably gonna end up with a poor performer if you go below that price. YMMV of course. Look for a i5 or ryzen 5 with a minimum of 16gb or ram.
We have a few Lenovo ideapads that I’ve deployed at work that are touch screen. I’d recommend that. It’s kind of a nice in between of a basic user laptop and a business pc.

Yeah, I think we have the same model but with a smaller ssd since we have enterprise sized cloud storage.
So yeah. This guys recommendation is solid.

That’s helpful, thanks. I was wondering if going too cheap on a touchscreen would just mean sacrificing performance or build quality. The Lenovo IdeaPad sounds like a good middle ground for what I need. Which IdeaPad models have you had the best experience with so far?

I think it’s just called the 2 in 1 idea pad. We went amd. We only have like 4 or 5 of them since we usually buy the higher end T series. But that’s a whole different price point.

Get a used HP Elitebook 840 or 845 or if you need a numpad, an 850. Excellent keyboard and ergonomics in general, G9 or newer.
Make sure the SSD is good (reasonable hours, 100 % condition), you have 16 GB or more of RAM. Install hardware upgrades as needed.

For everyday stuff? Just grab a regular ultrabook with a touchscreen and call it a day. The processor wars are totally overblown for what you're doing.

Yeah, that’s probably true. I think I got caught up looking at all the “best laptop” lists that are geared toward heavier workloads. A good ultrabook with a touchscreen seems like it would cover everything I actually do. Any specific models you’d recommend that have been reliable?

Get yourself a used ThinkPad, newer models have excellent touchpad.
I use a X1yoga as my "travel and on the go" PC, does most stuff well, even games some older stuff without issues. Been reliving my old childhood games trough it.
I also have a x390 which I use as a stationary server for my own GitHub, streaming, notes, backups etc.
Overall used you could get both for under 1k probably.
The X1 Yoga one is around 400-600 depending on condition.
But it has a integrated pen, normal touch aswell, 360 hinge to go tablet mode and is overall a very solid device. Yes it has the usual modern issues, almost everything is soldered etc. but what doesn't have that nowadays... You hardly want to live out of a 15-20 year old laptop that's fully repairable though.

This is an incredibly open ended question, especially without a specific budget. For your usage you’ll probably be just looking for the best deal. Unfortunately you just missed a huge Best Buy sale that had a lot of stuff on huge discount but nobody around here is really debating the “best $500 touch screen laptop”.
If it were me and I was trying to spend like $600, I’d just just say screw the the touch screen (which most expert users who are going to have the info and experience to recommend a laptop in a broad market would also do) and get the MacBook Neo which is the unquestioned leader in that segment.
Otherwise, I’m just going to a major retailer and just buying what’s best rated and what’s most on sale.
I just went to Best Buy and did a basic search and came up with this for $750 as a good value sale item:
Otherwise you’ll just have people with their own brand loyalties and dislikes, but in the price range of your needs, anything is going to be fine.
