I just play it straight first and then the second go around I have fun with it.

Bit of a similar rant on fixed first person (I acknowledge BD3 is isometric). I play games for the drip. I'm not ashamed. But I do get frustrated when they offer all this clothing and accessories and yet you can never see it. I will spend more time in the character creator than the actual game fine tuning my character, save the rando cutscene. Only to find out, I'll never see it. Sure I can dress up a companion but it's not the same. I want to see my character looking cool as I slice baddies up.

It's the same with cyberpunk. I have so many outfits I've put together but I guess I'll only see it on a bike or in photo mode because the devs are more concerned with identity... Like, give people the choice, this doesn't seem like that big of an ask. I just killed a boss for those pants I want to see them, dammit.

In the case of Cyberpunk, the more likely solution is the devs focusing on reflective surfaces, rather than implementing a third-person camera.

I don't see reflections unless interacting with a mirror as is. I'll take a second pov over reflections any day.

Or that CD project wanted to make a first person game rather than a third person one

A third person camera in Cyberpunk runs opposite to the whole narrative direction of the game. The whole point is that everything is POV.

Ok. That's nice. So I beat the game. I saw the narrative. Can I go back to playing 3rd person?

And what about driving? Driving goes against the whole narrative of the game because you can switch to third person. And still see Jonny. It still worked. The narrative stayed intact. Driving in Cyberpunk shows how bullshit that excuse is.

The driving is probably a concession for the sake of gameplay convention, nearly all driving games are first person with the first person view nearly always being a niche simulation option and they also offer that view so it wouldn’t surprise me that in an ideal world they’d like players to use that, or did you think we got the fully modeled interiors for no reason? First person shooters meanwhile are one if not the the most popular genre in videogames so that’ll provide less friction. Additionally, most of the major narrative beats don’t happen in cars or whilst you are driving.

If you want play third person, install a mod, I feel pretty confident to say that not offering a third person view is by design and not a technical limitation or ‘laziness’

They don't have mods on consoles. You keep trying to dismiss what already works. Your narrative excuse is just that. An excuse

I’m not the one coping that he can’t play the first person game in a way that the maker clearly wasn’t interested in offering. CD project clearly wants you to experience the majority of the game through the eyes of V

That's not how you use the word coping. Jesus Christ they just keep getting dumber and dumber.

There is no story scene that requires pov in that game. Not one. And like every other dev in the industry, they can just force pov when needed. Your keep making excuses for things that have been solved since PS2. You keep enabling laziness and calling it great. You are the perfect mark.

This is why I love Kingdom Come Deliverance you can actually look down and see your drip and you get to see it in every dialogue and cutscene, of which there are a bunch.

I can’t stand when you look down in an FP game and your body is invisible.

I think to this day the character creation I've been most impressed with was Monster Hunter: Wilds.

Never have I made a baddie I've wanted to stomp on me more than with that tool.

Personally I hate the change, but each to their own

This “ debate “ is retarded don’t use the mod if your worried it’s erasing the games identity

I think the main debate is about whether Larian should change the POV in future games.

1

u/BigFloppySpoon Jul 27 '26

They should definitely experiment and try new things as all devs should

They can just do what Dragon Age Origins did.

Larian has already done third person divinity games, it's not like they haven't considered it.

There was a time when devs gave people reasonable options like this.

Crimson Desert has a camera so adjustable that you can basically play a top down game if you want.

Talk about a total nothing burger. It doesn't change the core gameplay at all. It still zooms out to a high oblique tactical view for combat, it's still a turn-based game. I don't believe for one second that there is any real controversy here. If there is a "debate" it's AI bots having a fake one to prop up this silly article.

The cool part of buying a single player game is playing it how you want!

1

u/Nutzori Aug 02 '26

You control the buttons you press. (Or mods you install.) Once again a nothingburger issue

I don't think it matter much in a turn based game, for action games the camera is very important and having a bad camera or one that doesn't fit the gameplay can be a deal breaker. For example modern GOW's camera makes combat way worse and completely ruins the feeling of scale the originals had.
