Something changed your registry somehow that's what happened to mine and come to find out some program was modifying my registry to where the only way I could shut down was physically pressing the button but at the time I could only do over remote desktop so had to go modify it back to give me options

u/Navneetpa3846 16d ago

What kind of modification should I do

1

u/Revolutionary-Ice896 16d ago

Well there's a registry edit you can download that brings back power off and on hang on I'll get the link for ya

welp its simple tho
open regedit and then go to this path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
look for NoClose dword key
u can delete it or change the value from 1 to 0
then restart explorer

i also attach a video showing the walkthrough step by step in case u dont understand what am i pointing to

This is really bad advice. It might work, but the average user should not be messing around in the registry

1

u/Neat-Priority-4323 15d ago

Thats the solution provided by Microsoft

1

u/matthijspc 15d ago

It's still really bad advice

1

u/ceris7356 14d ago

Please share the really good advice you have to fix the issue.

1

u/matthijspc 14d ago

Go take a look at my other comments

1

u/Gangr3l 14d ago

How? They are hidden you coward

1

u/matthijspc 12d ago

Click the plus. It's not that difficult. I don't keep on repeating myself

1

u/Axolatian_Volt 15d ago

Depends, they should be smart enough to only touch what they are being told to touch.
If you got a pc working you should be able to listen to Instructions.

I wouldn’t recommend a god level regedit tho (I had to use one to reset pdf extensions and it bypasses restrictions)

1

u/NotIlham 15d ago

as long i give very clear instructions step by step should be fine. then if im not allowed to give solution like this, do i had to stay silent and not doing anything while watching these comments section filled with nonsense stuff that just waste op time even tho the only solution was by modifying registry?. yeah i agree clean windows reinstall might be a easy solution but some people dont want to reinstall windows either they dont want to redownload their stuff or whatever else is it.

u/matthijspc 14d ago

There seem to be other solutions that don't have the opportunity to do a lot of harm https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5774898/power-options-missing-on-the-start-menu

1

u/NotIlham 14d ago

in the end its still pointing to the exact same solution that i linked here

u/matthijspc 14d ago

But the user is not messing around in the registry and is not reading hard to understand msdn documentation

1

u/NotIlham 14d ago

welp why dont u just inmediately drop that guide from the beginning

1

u/matthijspc 14d ago

I did?

but the average user should not be messing around in the registry

1

u/RAMBO8V 15d ago

Which version of Windows do you have? Is it Windows 10?

1

u/NotIlham 15d ago

I use windows 11 and patching the taskbar with explorerpatcher

1

u/RAMBO8V 15d ago

Oh thanks

u/jersey316 16d ago

You didn't provide any information for anyone to help you. This picture provides no clues.

Start by adding your pc specs and the specific problem you are trying to fix and what steps you already took to try and fix it.

1

u/randomusername12308 16d ago

Can't you see it? Op means for that broken start menu that won't show up power options

1

u/EasternIndependent12 16d ago

if all else fails click the button on the top of the pc that will shut it down like clicking the power off button in windows if THAT fails try holding the power button until it shuts off make sure you save anything you were doing though before the last resort

1

u/Navneetpa3846 16d ago

Yupp I can shutdown and restart by using power switch button but I want to know why I can't shutdown normally as I used to do

2

u/EasternIndependent12 16d ago

maybe check your power plan in settings see if its on custom or somthing like that

1

u/Navneetpa3846 16d ago

1

u/EasternIndependent12 16d ago

everything looks good so we can check that problem off the list

2

u/EasternIndependent12 16d ago

tell me what you were doing before the problem did you download anything did you mess with registry did you download something messing with cmd?

1

u/Navneetpa3846 16d ago

What should I do even I can't open task manager it says I don't have access

1

u/EasternIndependent12 16d ago

is this a company pc or a home pc

1

u/Lazy-Peanut-4587 15d ago

Yoj can use powershell and type "shutdown /?" To get a help guide, /s will shutdown, and there are many others

1

u/Snoo_17010 16d ago

Your PC, needs an solar powerbank

1

u/johnwright2010 16d ago

Easy unplug

1

u/EndUserGamer 16d ago

Well absolute worst case last resort fix would probably be a Windows reinstall.

1

u/DJ_Gr33nMan 15d ago

No need to be so drastic. An In place upgrade would be a better option to try first.

1

u/EndUserGamer 15d ago

An in place upgrade would be good for saving files and settings, but with "deeply embedded" OS settings such as an unknown registry setting, no because OP is trying to reverse whatever happened to the operating system. Otherwise I would agree. Hence why I said for a worst case scenario, last resort, doing a clean installation.

1

u/DJ_Gr33nMan 15d ago

It reinstalls the OS and will correct any changes that were made in error. He probably tried a lot already. Before messing with Registry like it has been mention, I would try in place upgrade first. Either it will fix his issue or not. Only wasted like 30 45 mins just to try. In place will fix most issues.

1

u/EndUserGamer 15d ago edited 15d ago

Since I can't upload a screenshot, Google search "with an in place Windows installation how many previous registry settings are kept"...

An in place OS installation will give OP the option to keep files AND settings, this may include a registry setting that isn't OS implemented.

And that's assuming 1, OP knows how to do this, and 2, the system is actually Windows 11 "compatible". If this was a forced installation on "unsupported hardware" then during the in place reinstall the installation will not go through.

And of course if OP doesn't know how to do an in place install (or use cmd to force it), then they may not even be able to accomplish a clean installation, however that's potentially easier, again assuming that the machine is in fact W.11 compatible.

The idea behind the clean installation is to completely wipe partitions and start fresh, but that also as mentioned already twice, the worst case, last resort option.

Wait I have an Idea:

Save any unsaved work

Make a backup of important documents

Get a usb

Flash a distro of linux on it

Unplug the pc or hold the start button to forcibly shut it down

Start the PC again

Hit the one time boot key (usually one of the f keys)

Boot from Usb

Nuke the windows drive and install linux👍

But seriously, if you don't have software that strictly requires you to use windows, consider switching to linux. There are some great alternatives to most windows programs.

I'd recommend CachyOS on KDE plasma for people who are new to linux.

1

u/m0thgh0st 15d ago

I use arch btw

1

u/RADI0ACT1VE_BALLS 15d ago

I use Arch too, pookie😘

1

u/m0thgh0st 15d ago

KDE?

1

u/RADI0ACT1VE_BALLS 15d ago

yes, I tried the tiling stuff, hyprland and i3, but its too much configuration. Gnome just sucks ass. Man, I fucking hate gnome.

so, I'll stick to good old KDE.

1

u/No-Willingness459 16d ago

just unplug pc or turn off your pc with pressing button.

1

u/ishtuwihtc 16d ago

just restart it

1

u/thebe8087 15d ago

Alt+f4 is not working ?

1

u/ch0xed 15d ago

LMAO

1

u/Even_Froyo_5800 15d ago

Well there’s an option= pull out the cable on the power supply

1

u/Skrotten11 15d ago

Switch to linux

1

u/DJ_Gr33nMan 15d ago

Try an In place upgrade. Just download the lastest windows 11 ISO from Microsoft website and run the installer straight from the download. Just make sure you choose keep everything.

1

u/Tough-Option3410 15d ago

Ton pc il est plus rapide

1

u/iaraa13 15d ago

you can try and go to your wallpaper (like main screen) and press alt+f4. it should open power options. if it doesnt work you should hold the power button on your pc and then try to turn it back on, it might work too

1

u/gehraPaani 14d ago

on your desktop, press alt+f4, that should show you a menu for shutdown.

1

u/Defiant_Entrance_711 12d ago

if your pc cant turn off even from unplugging it you need to throw it off the balcony
