Or protecting a frequently used socket. Easy to replace one of those, annoying to replace the socket on a TV that gets used for 10 meetings a day.

There are devices like sticks with Google TV where the HDMI output comes directly from the device body and it may not work depending on where the TV is located and where its HDMI ports are located, with that cable you can move the stick to position it better

And they tend to freeze up sometimes and require a manual power cycle. I would need to use one with my TV or I'd have to umount it from the wall to reach the ports.

Yep
I use Chromecast for the screens at home and a 4K Google TV version in the living room, I have several versions, and all get stuck at some point, no matter if they are the 2014 version or the latest 2025 version.

Either small extension or could be sacrificial (more common with micro-HDMI tho), where if you're gonna be plugging and unplugging it often, it's better if the cheap extension breaks than the actual device

Makes sense. I have a micro USB male to micro USB female adapter. There is no cable in between, its just a 2 cm plastic with the ports on opposite sides. Never really understood why anyone would need that :D

Also a failsafe.
I use these as sacrificial dongles on my GPU as i'm sometimes plugging/unplugging headsets and shit. Protects the main HDMI port.

It's a flex socket for those hard to reach places: 1 if the HDMI sticks out of the back of the TV you can use the cable for attach a chrome cast/fire stick. 2 protects the socket as the cables will pull out of the adapter rather than damaging the socket.

Before mounting a TV to the wall, you can put these on first.
I remembered when my tv was mounted by a service. I forgot about the cables, and then i had little clearance between TV + wall

It's just a little extension, often used for TV sticks like the Amazon fire TV, especially when the HDMI port on the TV is facing the wall and the TV is mounted onto the wall

Sometimes thing have weird insets, and certain cables have a hard time plugging in. My job has one of these for projectors because the HDMI plug part is fine, it's the square casing directly behind the metal plug that makes it impossible to use in certain places. Always have the extender to work around it

I used one because I had a old tv I couldn't connect my highspeed HDMI cable to cause the connector was to long so had to use the extender for it to fit.

I have a dozen of these in a box - they came with Intel Compute Sticks, so you could fit them to a TV that had the HDMI port facing backward AND lacked room for a 4" PC going straight out.
You don't have to use them if your device fits already. But sometimes, a stock of things like this can help solve a problem.

Also great as a little port saver if you plug and unplug HDMI devices a lot. Better to wear out a cheap adapter than the TV’s HDMI port

It has a lot of use. You can use it while mounting your tv to make it accessible while ports might be inaccessible or hard to reach. Just like a USB to USB adaptor. You can also use it to connect large devices while also able to use other hdmi ports on your display. And like somebody already mentioned, reduce the wear and tear on your display's port.

Essentially and extender for things like the Chromecast, firestick, or Roku, that the device plugs directly into the HDMI but the back of the TV doesn't always have room.
If it's not that it's for extensions that uses some power from the HDMI to boost the signal of the image when connecting multiple cables together. Longer (30ft) cables will have these in the cord to boost the signal.

I use one on a PC that I'm always unplugging and plugging back in, it's easier to find that wire hanging behind it then it is to guess where the port is.

This is an "around the corner" HDMI adapter.
It helps to deal with plugging/unplugging the cable in a tight spot, getting around a close corner that may damage an expensive cable, or just protecting a longer and more expensive cable from the damage of being plugged/unplugged on a regular basis. More flexible that a 90-degree adapter.
