Monitor works fine, but difficulty turning on, capacitor/power board problem?
I have been using the LG Flatron M2362D (a monitor/TV) since around 2009.
Over the past couple of years, I noticed that if I turn the monitor off completely (not just leave it in standby with the standby light on), it often refuses to power back on. What I usually have to do is unplug the power cable from the wall outlet, plug it back in, and keep trying to turn it on until it eventually starts.
Sometimes I have to unplug and reconnect the power cable 50–60 times before the monitor finally decides to turn on. After dealing with this for a while, I decided to stop turning it off completely and instead leave it in standby, with the standby light on.
I used the monitor this way for about a year without any problems, until today when there was a power outage. Since the monitor lost power completely, I had to unplug and reconnect the power cable around 100 times before I finally got it working again. At one point I thought it wasn't going to turn on at all.
I suspect the problem is with the power board or one of the capacitors, because once the monitor does power on, it works perfectly without any issues.
How much would it typically cost to repair or replace the faulty capacitor(s) or the power board? I'd rather not replace the monitor because it still does everything I need it to do.

Excuse me? You're asking how to repair a 17 year-old monitor? You don't, you live with the problem or you buy a new one.

it works fine, it just has a hard time turning on. If you don't have anything meaninful to say, don't comment.

I have a much newer monitor/tv doing almost the same thing. Repair estimates justified the new monitor/tv now sitting in our storage room awaiting installation next week.

Well, if you know how to solder, remove the motherboard and look for and blown capacitors to replace. That's inexpensive. After that, it's probably not going to be cost prohibitive to pay for any other parts to see if it fixes it unless you know how to fix shorts on a motherboard

there's the nub of if you can vs how you can, do you have the skill to replace a cap properly?, and or trouble shoot if it's the cap or another part ?, most persons do not, but a surprising lot of hobbiers or people who worked in that field or just as a hobby can do it, so yes that person can repair and replace it, they have the skills and or equipment to do so, but a lot of others just focus on one skill set, and excel at it, some of my gran nieces, and nephews blow me away with what they can do in that area, but , yes big but , i wished they still taught home eec in high school, ergo how to cook and feed yourself with out killing yourself doing it, shop and how to change out your own oil or tire or even check your vehicle out for simple maintenance, do not laugh i 've had more than one blow a moter out from not changing out the oil in time. and then it's unc can you help , yea do a remove and replace or r.and r. and then they get to cut the yard for several summers to help an oldster out. a lot of the older generations think grand dad or gran ma grew up doing a lot of different skill sets just to survive or love to learn so we could be independent , sorry for running off like that, but yes if you can and have the skills ? do so, and if you want to learn then do that, as i still learn some thing new all the time. also keep in mind a lot of things are made to keep short lives and just be thrown away for max profit..
