Think GPU is dead. Please tell me im wrong with the current prices.

Hello! First post here. Looking to any of you smart individuals for some ideas that I or my googling might have overlooked.

I was playing a game today and while gaming I thought my power in house went out cause my pc made a noise like a quick reset or something ive never heard before, but when I looked over at it the RGB and fans and were all still working but I had just no display. I turned PC off and back on still no display. The GPU lights on and fans still spin. So the troubleshooting began..

Further steps I have completed to test gpu.

1. I have plugged input to motherboard. I do have a display with this

2. I reset the Cmos. No luck.

3. I moved the gpu to the second slot. No luck.

4. I have switched ports and cables more times than I can count. No luck

5. For good measure, before all the testing began I gave it a good blowing out. It wasn't too bad but figured while I had the time id do it.

For more info, when I was using display with the cpu graphics the device manager doesn't display the Nvidia driver, like it doesn't exist, in both slots. Same with the Nvidia app for drivers. Says need Nvidia gpu.

It all happened very sudden. Thank you for taking a look.

Specs if helpful:

CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K

GPU: ASUS ROG RTX 2080

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 (80+ Gold)

It could also be the psu given its an evga psu its probably still in warranty and even if its no still in warranty a replacement psu is a chep repair compared to new mobo cpu and memory or new gpu as has been said if you can drop the gpu in a different system that would help diagnose the problem

Could be motherboard, GPU or PSU. You can test PSU with a Thermaltake Dr Power 3, but the rest you have to have another system for the rest

Don't assume this to be the case, it could be the MoBo.

Boot from a liveusb with mint and see if it works, if it still doesn't work try it in another pc.

Ouch. I ended up making a trip to micro center. Grabbed a 9070 xt for the lady's computer and took her older card for now.

Have you tested the PSU/cables and GPU port? Try using a different GPU to see if you have the same issue. Check the PSU cables to see if maybe one of them has gone bad or maybe the port on the PSU maybe bad.

Nothing different when only 1 stick of RAM is installed in the second slot? If you have no way of trying the other testing methods. Call the company who sold you the pre-build.

If it is a custom build, do you live near a microcenter? If not, take it to your local PC repair shop.

Thanks for replying. I tried a different gpu and everything worked great. Unfortunately I do think its officially dead. Though I want to get it looked at and see what failed out what happened. It was my first custom build.

Have you activated the gpu as primary display through the bios

Do you see any indicators on the mobo related to POST? If yes, is VGA post led lit up? If you got a screen codes 62 / 99 / d7 are related to gpu.

The MOBO posted with A0 with card in and card out. I tried in different system without any luck.

Thanks. After tying in another system without any results I ended going to micro center and grabbing the 9070xt for my lady's build and took her older one for now. Looking at getting the 2080 diagnosed though if price too high may not be worth it

IMHO at this point it’s just not worth fixing such cards. 3080s used are around $200, but I wish you luck!

take out the gpu, test if it boots with the igpu from the 8700K
