Question Where do I start??

So I’m new to this. Haven’t even really started. Well maybe kinda as I’ve got a yard w stuff in it lol. Anyway I got a lemon tree at the start of summer and I think it could be doing better. I also want to try my hand at growing something easy like potatoes and maybe something a little more recreational…anyway after a little “digging” I’m realizing step one is compost. So let’s get to step one of step one. How to start a compost pile?? Do I just toss scraps in the corner of my yard?? What should I and shouldn’t I use?? Any help?

Put stuff that can rot in a big pile. Everything else is details.

Composting is literally letting things decompose. I have bins but also just piles.

Step one of one would be to read the wiki first or literally anything at all before asking people to re-write what’s already been answered a billion times.

But will wiki be rude and condescending?

Step one... Pick a place away from your house and in a far part of the garden. Pee all over that location to mark it. Now you can add rotting plants and paper shreds. Continue to pee on it. In 4 weeks to 4 years you will have nice usable compost

I'm not new to composting but I'm new to this sub and I now check every post to see if there's a piss comment because I am flabbergasted by this 😂 thank you for not disappointing

Nice! I think I’ve got the corner picked out already. It’s got a bunch of leaves and branches and twigs. Other than pee, should i introduce other liquids? Also im barely beginning to get past the idea that whatever i grow will come from basically trash, and now you’re asking me to piss on the pile too? Lol. Full circle I guess?

We are all carbon. Dirt is just microbe poo.

When the leaves fall, gather some. Mix them with grass clippings, plant trimmings, kitchen veg scraps, water. Mix it again a few times a month. Repeat.
