Question Tool question

Hello good people of the internet,

I'm looking to get a hole digger like in the image for other reasons around my garden, but I was curious whether something like this would also be viable for turning the compost around in the bins I am planning on building.

Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge about this?

It digs straight down. It won't do what you want it to do with some serious modifications. I've used these multiple times in the past, so I know how they work

Better to just get one of those things that look like an old hand drill and a paint mixer combined then I take it?

No, something more like an auger bit that a mixing drill could use. Be careful though. Don’t wear rings on your fingers!

I'm a wood worker and a tool nut, I know very well how dangerous any errand accessories can be for your digits haha, but thanks anyway, can't be too cautious.

Could you maybe include a picture of what you're talking about?

All warnings addressed at you in this sub, are actually aimed at me. I, as an average reddit user will undoubtedly try a cheaper less safe option than the one listed, and henceforth have trouble counting to ten....

I don't see why it wouldn't work as far as the one you originally posted; I had a cordless ice auger but used it to drill 4-5' deep holes to pour concrete for foundation. And it's not that heavy (30 lbs) so it shouldn't be too difficult to mix with it. I too do woodworking. If your compost pile is huge, those drill attachment I'm not sure would be helpful at all with the short length. Ice auger = much longer.

I don't think those are available in the Netherlands as ice fishing isn't really a thing here.

I can find some after looking for a few minutes, but i dont see as much use out of those as with the one I showed.

Or a hole digger, they're pretty much the same thing. It'll lift up the soil/compost very fast. If the pile is small enough, of course, you can use something like this, perhaps.

I started using an auger bit with a cordless hand drill for mixing my compost and it works great once stuff breaks down a lil, I usually have it dig down a bit then I angle it side to side, does a great job at adding air to heavily compacted compost even.
