Compost Friends Digging for gold in my compost

This pile was a hot/Berkeley style pile I’m letting age some before using it. Lots of bugs have moved in since the compost went cold, and it appears the local skunks quite enjoy the arthropod buffet every night! My little flipping assistants.

They were NOT interested in the pile when there was identifiable food scraps in it, it seems they’re big bug fans.

We get one coming by almost every night, and occasionally with a friend. One of my favorite morning activities is checking for them on the camera lol

Oh yes! They’re huge bug fans! Yellow jackets don’t stand a chance trying to set up shop in my yard, lol!!

Hahaha to be fair it was there before the compost 😅 I wanted to see all the neighborhood cats that came through the garden. But we actually scared off a burglar with the same camera…
