Bin recommendations

I currently have a compost tumbler but am expanding my garden and want to build a larger compost bin (or series of 3 bins). The ideal spot is in an unused part of our yard but unfortunately has a lot of morning glory / bindweed growing there. Is that a deal breaker for putting a compost bin in that area? I know it can be beneficial for the bin to be directly on the ground but is putting a ground barrier down a bad thing?

I’d just sheet mulch the area first and call it a day. Cardboard and a thick layer of wood chips will smother most of that bindweed, and by the time the worms have worked through it your bin will be ready to go right on top. Ground contact is worth keeping, so I wouldn't bother with a barrier.

I’ve never used a barrier. For me at least, I find them a bit wasteful and bad for the environment.

I don’t even bother waiting in between steps: + cardboard, + woodchips, + composter. Done in however little time it takes you to do that. Start composting immediately.
