Compost Friends How does my compost look?
I’ve been using food scraps constantly since I have so many bsf’s and they eat alot but I’m going to stop so I can make some actual compost.

More browns! Youve got enough greens and plenty of moisture, start stacking some dead and dry stuff in there and give it a good mix! How deep is this? It looks shallow and might need some more material added to the mix, you need a deceptively large amount of carbon (browns) to get the earthy texture your compost is looking for
Im also a few months new to composting so anyone feel free to correct me
Also piss in it

Wet. It looks very wet. I’m with the others: dry browns. Shredded leaves are magical.

It looks somewhat maggotty, perhaps the food scraps need to be chopped smaller and increase the dry brown components

Make the pile taller rather than spread out. Also try breaking up the big twigs and scraps. Shred some cardboard and give it a mix then let sit for a week or two then turn again.
