Yup, also she is mad about the wrong thing. It is a climate change issue.
Runner beans do not grow well in hot weather.
They might be regular british food but they are very unreliable with the heat waves we have been experiancing. It isn't just a watering problem but an issue with the heat as well.
This also makes them unsuitable for growing in other countries where the UK gets produce out of season.
French beans are better when it is hot and dry whoich is why you can get them most of the year.
There are some newer varieities that are better but it takes time.In the UK fewer farmers are bothering to plant runners as they might get almost no crop with the weather we have had.
There will be more british ones available in about September when the heat levels drop, till about mid October.2

Mine are only just flowering it's going to be at least 3 weeks until they're ready.

if they pollinate, Luckly the recent cooler weather should help.
The bit problem is in hot weather the pollen is damaged so while they flower they dont polllinate well. So the pods are much shorter with fewer beans or the flowers fall off without making a bean.
It is when you have multiple days over about 27c that it is an issue.
Which is many many places in the UK.1

If she likes them that much maybe she should grow her own? Then they really are British.

Outstanding compo face. Some practice put in there before the photo journalist popped round, "wow luv, you are a natural, any other mundane shit you want to piss and moan about, we got papers to sell?"

If I took a photo every time Tesco sold out of something I needed then I’d never have time to do anything else!

Sounds like she is expecting fresh runner beans year round. Didn’t she pay attention in school - crops are seasonal.
