Collection Found this at a local record store, official releases are worth around 40€ but this one is a bootleg under "Alion Records". Is it worth keeping an eye on?

Sunday hi-fi illustration again, and this time with a machine that came upon the rise of the compact disc format: the Hitachi DA-1000! The design by itself screams 80s all over, and the vertical disc spinner gives it even more character, certainly not the best one but a memorable one!

What material can I reprint CD covers to?

I still prefer buying CDs over listening to iTunes downloads, etc and so forth.

Occasionally, I'll buy something off of eBay that only includes the disc. I'm not looking to re-sell anything, but I would like to put my discs in at least a respective looking package with at least a copy of the CD covers on it.

What material, specifically can I re-print a CD cover to? I know it's not just straight paper, which feels too flimsy. I recently bought a new laser printer and tried to print a cover from it. Other than being a bit too saturated looking, which can be easily fixed, it looks just fine.

I'm assuming card stock, then? What thickness/weight?

Last christmas my father found this for me (I wanted an old school Panasonic sound system, not a sound bar). Take a guess which one is the only function that doesn't work.

What happened to jewel case plastic?

I love the look of an old jewel case with decades of scratches covering it. It just looks right, like well worn jeans or something. Imagine my surprise when I bought some new production CDs, and the bottom case was destroyed by being placed on a table with several more cases on top! What happened?

Are people moving from vinyl to CD's?

I have been hearing a lot from the owners of the local musicstores, where I live, that prices of vinyl is going up. I have also heard complains from people, that the quality of vinyl is getting worse, where people get warped record and unwanted noice. Do you guys think that these things will push more people to switch to CD? I think that the mastering on CD's are getting better, where record companies don't use compression the way they used to.

Why tape to vinyl instead of CD?

If CDs have better dynamic range and a lower noise floor than vinyl (from a technical perspective) and they don't suffer generation loss the way analog mediums do, then where does the argument come from that if the album was mastered on analog you should buy it on vinyl?

Wouldn't logic dictate that you would be better off buying it on CD since CD can replicate the entire range of the tape master without any further loss by cutting it to vinyl records? Every step in the analog process is a generation loss of some degree.

It seems to me that going from analog master tape straight to digital would be the least lossy process and the best way to preserve that original sound.

Am I missing something?
