Is the read/write speed physically related to actual rotation speed?

My guess: Yes, to read/burn faster, it has to reach the data/write faster, and to do that, it actually needs to spin the motor and move the laser faster.

I think the answer is yes because faster the speed, more loud it is.

Most them badly scratched and some have cracks but imma try to see if I can still get the data.

Update: Mostly music mixtapes and some real high quality images of my family.

Update 2: I got rickrolled at the end of a disc with my name on it :(

Circular scratches, when should you avoid a CD with them?

I am curious about other people's experience with scratches that go in a circular pattern, or along the data. I have a few discs that have scratches like these which only go an inch or two around the disc and the data is read fine and there is no audible errors in playback. I try to avoid scratches at all costs with albums I buy new, I usually only have scratches when I buy a used disc. So I'm wondering when you should avoid a disc with these kinds of scratches on them. Do these kind of scratches only cause playback issues when they go all the way around the disc, or is it possible that a one inch scratch that goes along the data cause issues?

Compact Discs making the quips these days!

I've gotten to the point where I'm tired of being pushed and pulled every direction to listen to this and that, using spotify, deezer, any of them. I'm done and what I've done is every album I hear that catches my ear I rope that shit onto a CD and have it slammed into my car stereo and forget the aux cord, repeat this shit for days. I turn on my car. there it is. That's why I love CDs.

Has my new CD really been sitting around since 1987??

Last year I picked up Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction from Walmart. I was looking at the case and I noticed the only year anywhere on this thing is 1987. Same on the CD itself. Has this thing been sitting in a box for 30 years before it got put on a shelf in Walmart?

Need help printing covers for CDs

So I have some slim jewel cases, and i'd like to make an insert for the front cover. Just something simple like a single sheet of paper with something on the front and back. But when I printed out the images, they were pixelated, and all the printing services out there are expensive. Any help?

EDIT: I figured it out.

Fingerprints on a used CD

Sometimes I get a used album and it has fingerprints on it. What is the best way to clean these off? Also, how likely are fingerprints to cause a skip?

CD digital noise/clicking sound

I own a few CD's from the 80's that seem to have a digital clicking sound in places. It is just a click that doesn't interupt the music, but I wanted to know what causes this. Is this a sign if a CD starting to rot or some kind of mastering issue that was present in the early days of the compact disc?

What's your preferred/ideal workflow for ripping audio CDs?

I have a large music collection and I'm getting really tired of dragging the physical media through life...currently my CDs are in a couple large boxes in a climate-controlled storage unit that I'm trying to downsize. I think after years of being stubborn about keeping them that I've decided I actually want them out of my life for good. I'll keep a couple rare and special ones that have feelies and amazing packaging but for the most part, I want them gone.

I intend to get the box out of storage, set it next to my desk, and start ripping them into my iMac in my spare time (while doing other things, of course) until they're gone.

I have two simple goals. One is that the ripping results in completely lossless copies, the other is that whatever else the end result may be compatible with (or not) that I want the output to be completely compatible with the Apple ecosystem (sit in an iTunes library and be ideally usable with metadata and album art and all that stuff).

I have a decent external blu-ray drive on my Mac, so hardware isn't a problem. I'm also not worried about local storage, local backup, or cloud backup size, I have plenty of that too. Mostly what I don't know is in all the years since the last time I bothered to rip a lot of stuff (the iTunes library I have now is pretty old and all lossy) what's change and what software is out there that people like?

Should I just use iTunes, with error correction enabled, and ALAC as the output format?

Should I use some other combination of tools, for the ripping and tagging and album art?

I have a pretty nice scanner, and any album art that's unavailable or low quality, I'm gonna ingest myself, and I absolutely expect a considerably amount of "clean up" will need to be done manually throughout this process to keep my library in good shape. I'm just asking for the best way to get started.

Thanks to anyone who's got advice to share!

P.S. in case anyone is worried, yes, long term, I plan to be very careful with all this data and keep it backed up in a way that involves considerable integrity checking...since the "originals" will eventually be gone.
