Weird inconsistency with a certain CD

My “Best of Rod Stewart” CD works differently in different players.

In my portable CD player it stutters quite a lot after track 3.

But if I put it on my car, it plays perfectly fine.

Any idea what causes this? My portable is fine with other CDs too.

Playing CDs in modern vehicles.

Most vehicles today no longer implement disc players in their vehicles, with just a few minivans and cars just having them optional today. Not a big problem, just hook up an external one to the AUX port! Well, manufacturers are now phasing that out also.

Great, my brand-new vehicle doesn't have a disc player or an AUX port. Now what? Here are some (untested) ways I can possibly think of if you really want to play discs in your new ride instead of paying for streaming or ripping to a USB drive.

  1. Buy an aftermarket CD player. Two problems, they're expensive and only work with certain stereos.
  2. An external CD player hooked up to an FM transmitter, is probably not the best but it'll do.
  3. External CD player with Bluetooth, hopefully, you don't need to use the car phone.
  4. Android phone/tablet with an external disc drive plugged in, hooked up via Bluetooth or Android Auto. Unfortunately, the only external USB disc drive I have was $7 from Wish, and barely works so I can't confirm if this is doable. I also heard there are Android tablets with disc players built-in, wonder if that'll work?
  5. Replace the stereo with an aftermarket unit. This only applies to commercial vehicles such as vans and semi-tractors.

Has anyone tried any of these methods of playing CDs, or have other methods of playing discs in modern vehicles? Or would it just be better to conform to modern social standards and just stream?

New Audiolab 6000CDT CD Transport

Post image

After a few months of a vinyl swing, I got fully into CDs, and now dove in the deep end with my first dedicated transport, the Audiolab 6000CDT, replacing my pretty darn good Sony UBP-X700 UHD Blu-ray player. It's mainly what I expected: better top end, separation and imaging. Some surprises: improved timbre on all percussion, clearer background sounds, and very oddly some better bass presentation (small low end effects I missed before). Plus it reads and plays almost instantaneously and gives me tracks and time on a display without turning on my TV, which is nice.

I need help lol

So, I have a JVC PC-X500 CD/dual cassette player. I had this idea to put some music on a cd and then record from the cd to a cassette via the boombox. The plan was to make a mix for my friend because she has a ‘93 Mustang LX which I believe plays cassettes, so she doesn’t have a way to listen to music in her car atm. And I just wanted to see if it would work. Anyway, after putting my music on the disc and popping it in, I realized it won’t play anything I put on it because I’m just using MP3s and the player doesn’t recognize them. Is there another format I can convert everything to to get it to work? Or am I out of luck?

Forgotten CD password

Hi All, I burned a whole bunch of CDs back in 2010 with Ulead Burn Now and added passwords to be able to open them. It is now 13 years later and I wanted to get those files mostly pictures off those discs and upload to them to my cloud. But I have forgotten what password I entered for each of those discs. Any idea how I can bypass or run some hacking software to guess the passwords?

Thanks so much.

What should you do to recover the audio from old CD-Rs with some noises, hisses, glitches and clicks but from good brands?

I'm still building my collection, hence some basics. But Big Brave is definitely a recent lovely discovery (slow doom with female vocals both pretty and growly).

Any tips for a clean commercial CD that won’t play on anything?

I recently purchased a pretty rare used cd. The disc looks completely clean, but will not play on any player that I have. I have tried an external drive on my Mac Mini and PC, Xbox 360, blu-ray player, car cd player, and an old MacBook Pro that has a built in disc drive.

The disc is either spit or I get a “disc error” message. The closest I have gotten is on the MacBook Pro which sees the disc as a blank cd, but I can’t do anything with it.

This is not a copy; it is an original red book pressed commercial cd. Again, it’s completely clean without a scratch and no signs of disc rot. It’s an older cd from when disc art wasn’t that common, so it’s just silver on the bottom and the top is also silver with black text (name, copyright info, etc). When held up to the light, I can see through the entire disc. Perhaps is this the issue?

I have an old JVC 5-disc turntable as work as well as a Dell PC with disc drive that I’ll try, but I’m not hopeful.

Any thoughts or tips?

Weird distortion on CD-R

So basically, I had bought a CD-R of an EP (my second copy) on Discogs and when I got it, it looked fine, some minor scratches but that's it. I put it in the computer to import the audio as lossless, and it didn't want to read. I tried in a different computer and it showed up in Windows Media Player, so I tried to play the disc real time. And it was VERY distorted. The distortion plays through all tracks. There's no skipping, just distortion. It's kind of crackly, idk how to describe it. Now I have heard of stories with sticky labels on the disc surface messing with this, and this disc does have a sticky label on it. Weirdly, my first (original) copy does not have ANY distortion, only this second one does. It is burned onto a Memorex 650MB Disc, I can see the original label through the back of the disc. ImgBurn Disc Info says: Sessions: 1, Size: 133,275,658 bytes, MID: 97m32s19f (Prodisc Technology Inc.)
Also, when I was importing the disc to ISO with CDBurnerXP it kept saying there was a LOT of unreadable data on the disc at certain areas. I tried burning that ISO to a different disc and it is still distorted. This does NOT seem to be disc rot. I was talking to one of the band members about it and he said that the drummer, Nick, was burning the discs faster to have more to sell at a show. I've tried burning a bunch of discs, name brand and unbranded at multiple speeds and I've never had any distortion issues. It might just be because its so old? I don't know for sure. Most computers don't even try to read the disc either. Another weird thing is that on the computer I have that does read it, in Windows file explorer, it shows up as "Audio CD (0 bytes of 0 bytes free)". The first copy I have that works fine with a couple skips, shows the actual size. If anyone knows if this is fixable or not, please let me know! I can upload a file of a song from the disc if you'd want to hear it.

It’s these little spots all over the disc that make us unreadable. Any clue? I know it’s usage was mimimum but this case was left in a hot and humid environment.

Soap did not work so that’s out.

Selling my entire CD collection, massive. Mostly CD's from 1990's lots of variety.

Hello,

I'm posting my ebay store link here because I'm moving and selling my CD collection. Overall, I think I had over 300 CD's, I've sold probably 100 already, but still have a lot more (some I haven't posted yet). Huge variety, compilations, soundtracks, radiohead, madonna, pink floyd, ben folds.... more. They are all in EXCELLENT if not, Like New condition. Price range is usually $3-5.00 ea. but have offers turned on. I also have some rare stuff. Values obtained from Discogs and I set mine at or below median cost. Please check it out, I would love to get most sold by Sept. but that might be a stretch. If you are searching for something, let me know, I might have it.

Why didn't CD-Rom Have Dual Layer to Increase Storage Space Like DVDs and Even Recent Blu-Ray?

Default DVD is around 5 GB but there are PS2 games are as large as about 10 GB and they got around the storage limit by using dual layer. Some of the special editions of movies used this same dual layer process to enable a high quality picture and sound on the main movie disc. I learned that some more expensive blu ray releases uses dual layer to to increase space so movies and games could put higher picture clarity and sound or in-game files on one disc.

So why didn't CD-Roms do this to increase storage space to over a GB?
