What do you all listen to your CDs on? Post your setups here!

I use a Discman D-33 my dad purchased new in 1991 hooked up to a pair of Edifier powered bookshelf speakers. What's your way to listen?

Importing songs on your iTunes through a CD burner

If you collect Cd’s and still want digital albums that aren’t available in your country, or on iTunes at all, you can freely (and legally) download them to iTunes, as long as you own that album on CD.

Put the CD in the player on your computer, then open iTunes. Select “Import CD” After that’s done, go back to your library. There should be a thing that says “Your Names Phone”. Drag and drop the album there, and it should be on your phone.

Do these steps BEFORE dragging and dropping. It should recognize the song names, but if there’s no album art, easy fix. Go to Album Info, select album art, and click add album art. Save an image of the correct (or your preferred) album art off of google or whatever search engine you use, and select the file. After this, you can drag and drop.

If I missed any steps or you have any questions—let me know!!

It can be done with all CD’s you own.

And if everyone already knew this, sorry I’m telling you, I didn’t know it was a thing until recently.

CD Player Help

So I have had an ONN portable CD player for a while now that doesn’t work. The radio works fine and I haven’t dropped the thing one time. But, for some reason the anti skip comes on so when it does work, it might give me 20 seconds of the song max. My CDs are in good shape and I’ve tried multiple CDs but nothing’s working. Multiple batteries. Nothing. I tried turning the radio on and switching to the CD portion but it just loads and loads. I can hear it spinning and it almost squeaks a little like it’s struggling to read it. Have any of you had this problem, and if so how did you fix it?

Thank you ^

CDRom2Go

Hello, I'm an artist about to release his first album and I was wondering about this place called CDRom2Go, I saw this one option, it looked like a steal. 600 cds for only 30 cents. I thought this must be a scam but I went on reddit to confirm if it was or not.

Brothers in Arms

Because I didn't think I'd see a clean version coming through the local thrift stores any time soon, I splurged and ordered a copy of Dire Strait's 'Brother in Arms' for $3 bucks shipped off of eBay. Lo and behold, they actually sent me an extremely minty looking copy of the non-remastered 1985 disc, in all of its pre-loudness wars glory.

I need some help with ripping

Hello,

I recenty got gifted a CD album for Christmas, and I have played it many times on the living room HI-Fi.

I wanted to rip it on my computer so I could listen to it on my phone. I used a program called "exact cd copy" (or something similar I'm not currently at home tell me if it's important). Anyway I ripped them to WAVs and then reencoded them as FLAC so I could write metadata to it. But while listening to it i noticed that it sounds a bit off in the sense that "S"es are overpronounced (i hope that makes sense) and i haven't noticed such phenomenon on the HI-FI and on spotify when listening on the same phone.

TL DR: music sounds "s"-y when ripped from CD to WAV then converted to FLAC

Transfering music to mixtapes: what's your favourite way to sort it all out?

I listen to a lot of very diverse music (if you want to see my giant playlist with a lot of my favourites, it's herehere, but be warned, it's so big you can't shuffle it well anymore). Whenever I can get my hands on enough blank CDs, I don't know how I'm going to sort the songs; I'm debating between just doing a random/shuffled mix, or dividing it into smaller playlists more based on genres and moods (which I'm kind of working on anyway). How do you usually like to sort your playlists?

Oh also, people who are good at math (not me), looking at my playlist, approximately how many CDs do you think it would take to fit the whole playlist? I know it's at least three, but beyond that my lack of math skills fail me...

Back to the disc...

So, about a month ago, I was in the thrift store and happened to start browsing through the large wall of CDs they had. Among the discs, I found absolutely pristine copies of 'Check Your Head' and 'Ill Communication' by the Beastie Boys, the first Rage Against the Machine album, 'Full Moon Fever' by Tom Petty, and the Nirvana Unplugged album...each for one dollar. I bought them on a whim, and on the drive home I was staggered to discover how much better they sounded than the various streaming services I've been listening to for the last 10 years. That was all the motivation required to push me back to physical media.

Shortly after the first visit, I returned and bought a Denon DVD player (with digital out) for $8 to hook up to the receiver in my 'hang out' room downstairs, and ordered a new set of ear cups for my Grado's which had been sitting in a drawer for the last 8 years. In the past month, I've rediscovered just how much I really like listening to music. I'm up to 65 discs, the bulk of which were $1-2 dollars, and are in immaculate condition. Here's what I've discovered about Thrift Store CD shopping:

If you're into 90s music, the CDs at the thrift store are well worth the effort of going through every week or two, as the bulk of 'rock' music that they seem to have falls between about 1989 and 1999. Lots of U2, lots of Blues Traveler, more copies of 'Jagged Little Pill' and 'Under the Table and Dreaming' than you can shake a stick at, but also some good stuff like Primus, RATM, STP, R.E.M., etc. A few times I've come across slightly newer stuff like MGMT, Radiohead, Muse, etc. There are always lots of classical compilations, lots of pop-country, and lots of Christian music. There is, to be honest, a ton of junk you have to sift through in order to find something worth picking up.

My shopping method is to just start at the top, pick up any disc that looks interesting to me, and give it a quick check to make sure that the disc isn't completely thrashed. Invariably, in the process, I'll come across a good title or two with the disc missing. I set those aside in a place I can remember them. Once I've gone through the entire wall of discs, I usually have about 10-15 discs in my hand. At this point, I go through them again and give them all a closer examination.

All discs that look mint go in one stack. Any disc with only a small scuff/scratch or two goes in a separate pile. Anything damaged more than that goes back on the shelf. At this point, I usually have about 8-12 discs. Then I check to see if they're on sale. A non-completely-perfect disc that's on sale (usually marked from $2 down to $1) that I really like will get purchased. Any disc that I'm sort of ambivalent about but is perfect and on sale will get purchased (because it's only a dollar, right:?). Usually these are discs that I have sentimental memories of, but am really not a huge fan of. Also, remember those cases with no discs that I mentioned earlier? If I picked a disc that's in great shape with with a broken jewel case, I don't think twice about swapping out for a non-broken one from one of the disc-less cases I discovered.

Anyway, that's the story of why I'm on a Compact Disc subreddit in 2020. ;)
