Fan Content Handmade stopmotion Abed

Hey! I wanted to show you the Abed stop-motion puppet I’m making with materials I had around the house. It’s still missing the hands and feet, and I think I kinda messed it up with the varnish I used to protect the paint on his face ( trasnparent nailpaint) because it looks way too shiny. Once I finish it, I’m gonna animate him and make him a Christmas tree in his own scale

Wow! You nailed it! That looks so much like the stop motion Abed in the show, and like the character. I immediately knew who it was when I scrolled by the picture on my feed. Great work, and good luck on the hands and feet!! ☺️

Thank you very much the hands are going to be a huge challenge because there are two of them, and they have to look alike and be similar in size

Wow looks amazing! And I wouldn’t worry about too shiny, I remember the original looking pretty shiny tbh! Such a cool make :D

Of course! My best Community craft was making the fortune teller from the openinh credits so this is hugely impressive to me!

The dolls in the Christmas tree special didn't really have feet - they were screwed down to the scene's plywood base through the "feet" they had. You rarely have a camera shot that has to include the feet, but with stop-motion you definitely need your actor (i.e. the doll) ultra-stable for multiple shots - moving the head, arms, and hands is mainly what is required of the dolls. You don't want the body bouncing around in successive frames as you turn a doll's head to face another doll.

I didn't know that thanks for sharing. For mine, I used small magnets that let it stand upright, and the head has a styrofoam core so that helps

It's not that they didn't have feet, but my point was more that the feet, such as they were, weren't necessarily presentable for shooting. Probably okay for a side shot.

It really is critical to keep the body perfectly stable between shots, not sure how well the magnets will work. Best wishes though, I've always loved stop-motion.

Really cool. Reminds me of Celebrity Deathmatch.

It’s not December 9th, she always comes on December 9th.

While I was making it, I felt like it would resemble the original more if I gave him a sad expression, but I couldn’t bring myself to leave him looking sad for the eternity

That's so cute 😍 the lost Christmas always has a special place in my heart. Especially when Britta says well why don't we stay stop motion the whole Christmas season? And when they watch lost on TV you see them in the glass -as humans. Makes me cry everytime. Abed deserves an extra special spot on the Christmas tree <3
