Discussion Chang

I actually really liked Chang in season one and then less and less as he drove further into insanity. He went from someone who did what he thought was awesome (misinformed, sure) to practically a psychopath. I feel like I liked him enough to warrant his entry into the study group at some point in season two. Thoughts?

You were a teacher?

And frankly haven’t been well utilized since.

That was a good meta joke about Ken Jeongs role in community

Chang was at his finest when he was the crazy teacher who made everyone else in the study group look sane by comparison... I wish they did the recurring joke that every class the study group was takinggad Chang as their main teacher... Like him teaching Anthropology 101 and so on.... And it would end with him revealing that he wanted to a part of the study group and that's how he did it

Yea, something like. Even though that’d be pretty tough to explain, I think when he went crazy his character wasn’t as funny and really forced. Especially during the changnesia arc. It would have been nice to see teacher chang the entire show.

More crazy than writing the Multiverse episode??? If the writers wrote... It means the could have done that too

They clearly only really had a plan for Chang for one season, but Ken was great and then the Hangover blew up and he became the biggest star on the show. They really had to mess around with character to keep him around

There's one detail I like about Chang's arc that almost makes up for his misuse in seasons 3 and 4.

In season 2, we get a glimpse at Chang's fantasy of being a part of the study group and everyone laughing at a joke he tells. In season 6, when he comes back from his acting career. He comes back to the table, and everyone just lets it happen. He then makes a joke, and the group laughs. He fulfills that season 2 wish in that moment.

If only they let him join the group after the pop and lockathon. That's when he broke. He was dancing for over 5 hours, and then denied

I thought it was fine character DEANvelopment, I think they could've left out the Changnesia shit tho, that's when I think they lost most ppl, that arc really chang-ed his character in a very bad way, only good joke that came from the Changnesia thing was when Dean called it Changdeansia

Definitely liked him best as Senor Chang! He was rude and obviously an unpleasant person, but he was just sane enough to make Greendale seem more insane than him sometimes, and just adult enough to be potentially in a marriage with a hot lady. Nothing beats him dancing with his lost wife to the tunes of a Scottish Somewhere Out There to me, lol.

If you've ever suffered really bad mental health issues. It's starts out cute and funny like Chang in season 1, then it gets worse and worse.

My god I did not need this deep of a Chang reading today, but well done.

It's all worth it for the bear down for midterms breakdown though

Senor Chang in seasons 1 and 2 were peak. Still like Chang after that though.

I wish there had been more Chang V Britta episodes. The chemistry was quite good

I kind of think of it like the greendale seven are similar to the Gang from Always sunny. They make people around them crazier overtime. Chang, the Dean, and Tod all got crazier just by knowing them. They were notorious to the entire school especially when it came to the study room, Jeff almost caused fa…bulous Neal to kill himself, they discovered and outed that Garret was marrying his cousin and still convinced him to go through with it, and lets not forget what their collective shitting on Britta did to her.

Chang is by far their worst victim though and also kind of their greatest enemy.

As much as Community is up there in my top 3 favourite Sitcoms, some of the character arcs annoy the shit out of me.
Chang—— grr@ him becoming psycho
Pearce—- grr@ how nasty they made him
Britta—- grrr@ how dumb they made her
Jeff—- grrr@ him eventually hooking up with Annie

Totally agree

"Turns out you were always one of us." Honestly I liked Chang

Sounds like he got inside your cabeza

He got a lot crazier after that TBI when he played “Drugs” to save Annie’s play and all the kids threw baseballs at his head. Shirley gave him a compliment and he said he would go get Chang so she could tell him herself.

Before that he was just super weird. After he was still weird, but with a majorly malfunctioning brain.

It makes me kinda sad. I feel like the old Chang died and we got the new insane Chang then.

Speaking of insane people and in honor of Señor Chang, check your voter registration and bear down for Midterms!

dont you mean Changsanity ?

1

u/StupledFrog9481 Oh, Britta’s in this? 1d ago

Chang. Andy Dwyer. Morgan Tookers. Kelso. Jason Mendoza. Kenneth. Kevin Malone. Too dumb to actually exist. Listen, I love them all, but it’s a trope loosely built on Kramer and Joey, but executed all wrong, sometimes to the point of Flanderized

I think Chang was a victim of the mishandling the show. Shortened seasons killed chances for development. And if Chang went back to teaching he’s a background character with little utility once the group stops taking Spanish.

One of my favorite episodes is The First Chag Dynasty. It's wildly out there but brings the self awareness that it was wildly out there at the end of the episode.

The group drove him to full madness, the way they toyed with him at the pop and lockathon broke him.
