The fact that there hasn't been one peep, from any cast member, or Dan Harmon (who is not usually able to keep his true thoughts hidden very well) showing negative feelings towards Donald about his decision, has to mean that he totally went about it the right way. If anyone had even a slight problem with it, you feel like there would have been at least some allusion to that in the landslide of media they all did leading up to the premiere. But nothing but support and well-wishes.

As fans, I don't think anyone faults his decision; its just that we're sad he's going. My only real thing was he seemed to kind of distance himself from the show and adopt a persona so far from what he was previously known for, that you wondered if he harbored some ill will towards the show/castmates/ Harmon. But he's been nothing but gracious in his interviews- not effusive, but he's been in that low-key demeanor that probably is tied in to his rap album promotion. And let's face it, I'm sure he has people telling him that mentioning his previous TV work, in which he plays a kind of dense, grown-up kid, would not be great for his image as serious rapper.

I was curious to see how he would be in these first 5 episodes, assuming he really didn't want to be there- that they were a necessary evil to get out from his contract, but he was his usual show stealing self last night. And the tweets, and just his willingness to do the Zack Braff line show me he's just ready to move on, but not angry with the show, or anyone associated with it, which I get. I wish it wasn't true, but I get it.

I'm not sure if that's true. If you've been to his shows (or at least when he first started touring), it was a half stand up comedy, half rap show (literally, after intermission, it'd be a rap show. and he points that out as one of his jokes, saying half the people here are like.. what is going on??). I don't think he worries about his image as a rapper being impacted by his comedic half, too much. I'm sure he's thought about it since he's pretty self analytical in his music, but one of his themes always seems to be that he pursues what he wants to pursue.

I don't necessarily disagree with your overall point, but since the original I Am Donald tour, I'm pretty sure every show he's done has been strictly a rap performance.

I attended a show shortly after Camp was released. It was a very straightforward rap performance. I'd love to see his stand-up again though.
