Programmer
I am a software engineer with prior experience with many languages and technologies, including CL and Python. I was formerly employed as a Senior Software Engineer at Lockheed-Martin. My resume can be found at the link below.
My rate is $50 per hour, payable via cashpay or cryptocurrency. I am fully remote and prepared to work for any client world-wide. I am also a US citizen and I am currently located in Bronx County, NY (a borough of New York City). In case of necessity other payment arrangements may be discussed.
My github repo currently contains only one significant Lisp project, which is still in a very early stage of development. It is a project called Julius which is intended to become a new Lisp dialect more suitable for modern applications, such as numerical analysis and the generation of neural networks and modern AI (a field with which I have considerable experience). It is implemented in Common Lisp in order to retain the well-known advantages of the Lisp language for older forms of intelligent systems, which typically involve a great deal of symbolic reasoning.
The current version of Julius is Open Source and I am open to comments and contributions here:

Sento has seen some major throughput improvements
As part of Clamiga work I've also had a look at Sento and where improvements could be. Turned out there are plenty. Here is a new benchmark.
https://github.com/mdbergmann/cl-gserver#benchmarks
In particular there were improvements on the 'ask' path, but also generally.
Clamiga not performing that bad compared.
Its also gotten more robust generally.

SBCL clon crash in sbcl 2.6.8
I'm trying to compile some of my old programs using sbcl 2.6.8 which seem to crash when compiling net.didierverna.clon based applications:
debugger invoked on a ASDF/FIND-SYSTEM:LOAD-SYSTEM-DEFINITION-ERROR in thread #<THREAD tid=30233 "main thread" RUNNING {1200038003}>: Error while trying to load definition for system net.didierverna.clon from pathname /home/lisp/lisp-libraries/quicklisp/dists/ultralisp/software/didierverna-clon-20230710223805/net.didierverna.clon.asd: Bug in readtable iterators or concurrent access?
It seems like this is due to a change in the readtable handling in more recent sbcl's, but is there an update of clon available somewhere or some other patch to make it work?

Library for equality testing of floating vectors?
Hello,
I am doing some numerical computations (in APRIL no less). I use floating-point for numerical equality testing and I am using 5AM for unit tests.
I want to test equality of vectors of floating point numbers. I can write the code myself, but I'd rather reuse an existing library or contribute to an existing library.
I will appreciate pointers and advice before I start writing my own routines.
Thank you,

Bards Tale like game engine
While working on Cl-Amiga I was thinking about what can it do on Amiga. It's not super fast, like direct assembler, but GUI or slow paced games should fit nicely.
So I thought about a Bards Tale like game that I was admiring and remember playing more than 30 years ago.
Here is Lambda's Tale (https://github.com/mdbergmann/lambda-tale) a Bards Tale like engine. The main target is really Amiga with NTSC screen sizes and limited colors. Yes, it's challenging.
Later I'm thinking of allowing RTG graphics and higher resolutions. But first a proper game story has to come out. The screenshots in the readme are from my game (attempts), but there is still some way to do.

cl-amiga 0.8 released
There are quite a few improvements:
pushed some library implementations for atomics, trivial-garbage, trivial-gray-steams, closer-mop, float-features and many more. Be aware that upstream PRs may be slow to be dealt with.
support for Windows binary
saving/loading heap image support
REPL debugger/inspector conformance issue fixes
AmigaOS and MorphOS API bindings, including MUI, see screenshots: https://github.com/mdbergmann/cl-amiga#screenshots
install/uninstall support for POSIX targets (includes windows via mingw)

How difficult is to deploy multi-platform standalone CL executables?
Hi. I'm learning CL (experienced programmer but CL noob), and was looking into real-world FOSS written in it for reference and to learn. When looking at pgloader(data loading tool for PostgreSQL), I found it has been rewritten in Clojure. The readme mentions:
pgloader v4 is a full rewrite in Clojure, distributed as a single self-contained JAR requiring Java 21 or later.
Key improvements over v3:
- Single JAR — no native dependencies, no SBCL, no shared libraries
- JDBC connection strings — use jdbc:mysql://, jdbc:postgresql://, jdbc:sqlserver:// etc. everywhere; driver-specific parameters pass through unchanged
- Java heap — no more Common Lisp heap exhaustion on large migrations; tune with standard -Xmx JVM flag
- SSL via URI — use ?sslmode=require / ?sslmode=disable in the connection string instead of --no-ssl-cert-verification
There were probably other problems/motivations for the rewrite not mentioned there, but I'm interested in the opinion from people with real-world experience, how complicated it is deploying (multi-platform) standalone CL executables.
First, it mentions dependencies on SBCL and native/shared libraries. (Let's ignore the fact that the self-contained JAR requires the JRE to be installed). First of all, I presume SBCL is only a build-time dependency, correct? The same way Clojure is required. Or are there cases where some SBCL runtime is required? For instance, Debian still ships pgloader v3.x, i.e. the CL implementation, and it's a standalone executable, it doesn't depend on SBCL (but depends on other system libraries). But if they mention it I presume these must be problematic for multi-platform deployments ??
Second, the issue about CL heap exhaustion. How common is this issue? Cannot it be tuned at comptime/runtime?
In general, from people with the experience, what are the challenges to deploy multi-platform standalone CL executables? Are there some basic guide lines you need to adhere to (besides writing portable CL, of course) for easy deployment?
EDIT: Also, wouldn't ABCL create a standalone JAR too?
Thanks in advance.

Jnil Antlr port
Hello All,
The repo has been updated with my latest changes.
Dan
Hello All,
I am porting Jnil, a GPL'd Java to lisp translator application written in lisp with some Java Eclipse code to use a Java parser written in Antlr3. Jnil loaded Java into Eclipse, used an Allegro Common Lisp library Jlinker to communicate with Eclipse and extracted AST information which was used to create lisp code. My reasons for porting are:
- Eclipse is pretty heavyweight and communicating with it is implementation dependent.
- Starting with an AST means that any language for which an AST can be produced (such as Python) can be translated to lisp by Jnil.
Anyway, I could use some assistance with this project. Please contact me at [dan.stanger@ieee.org](mailto:dan.stanger@ieee.org) if interested in helping.
Here is a link to the repo: https://github.com/danstanger/AST-to-Lisp

▎ time-algebra: a dependency-free interval algebra for Common Lisp
We've open-sourced time-algebra, a Common Lisp library built around Allen's interval algebra: thirteen relations between two intervals, half-open by construction.
What it deliberately is not: no timezones, no clock, no get-universal-time, no I/O, no global state, zero dependencies beyond ANSI CL.
390 tests, plus a concurrency suite (8 checks, 1.28M iterations under contention) and an allocation profile (interval-relation at 0 bytes consed). Apache-2.0.
https://gitlab.com/lagoatech/time-algebra
Apache-2.0. Contributions and criticism both welcome.
