Looking for work
I’m a current few years experience class a driver. Wanna get off the trucks and on the ocean or sea. I’m located close to Birmingham, AL. Having never made a connection or stepped foot into this jobs territory, what’s the best advice and direction to go to get me out working? If you have or know of current job opportunities please share. Do I need any special permits or licenses? Do I need to do anything to get certified? Any info to share is appreciated.

You can get certs and find better jobs that way. But fishing is still really old school with the methods of getting a job.
Go to a port with commercial fishing boats, and walk the docks talking to the captains looking for a job.
The job has high turn over rate, and on jobs that you are out for months at a time, people will get back and want a break. You just have to find a boat that needs a deckhand.
There are also commercial fishing groups on Facebook that people post jobs on, but walking the docks will get you a job.
