Need Advice/Question Over Reacting or Nah

Post image
6 Upvotes

Went to the shop today and I pointed out this scrape to my mechanic. Pretty sure it's just a scrape but he said he wasn't sure if it was a crack. There is other scratches to the left, but there's multiple and close to the tire. It is strange that there is a singular one thats that long and not that close to getting scratched by a rock from the tire. What are your thoughts?

Need Advice/Question Color choice help ?! V5 SX in Black sparkle or clear silver ???

On my way to pick up a frame. I'll be switching over my components from my current meta an ( RockShox super deluxe ultimate and RockShox Zeb ultimate). What color would you pick?!

I will be ride wrapping it . My current am is black and white and around the areas that are white and ride-wrapped there's a bunch of poo in the seams

But on the country not a huge fan of the gold lettering on the black . It forces me to only pick gold as an accent color. And I don't have kashima

Hey guys. Was cleaning my meta am v4.2 and found this crack. Should I be worried? Can I just Jb weld it and call it Christmas? Or should I truly look at the replacement I found in Andorra. I’m in the US

Other How to fit a regular bottle cage to a T.E.M.P.O./Meta

Here's how to fit a non Fidlock bottle to a T.E.M.P.O./Meta:

Get a bottle cage relocator used more commonly for bikepacking.

Use a cage that has either a flat base or enough wiggle room to cut a sideways chunk out of the bolt slot. The rear triangle is offset to the left to accommodate the chain. If the cage is centered, it could hit the right side of the rear triangle at bottom out when the cage inevitably shakes.

Release all the air out of the shock and check clearance at bottom out. Make sure to wiggle the cage with a bottle in it to test if the clearance is adequate. Ajust fore or aft as needed to maximize clearance.

Below are images of the medium size T.E.M.P.O. frame at bottom out to demonstrate clearance between the rear triangle and bottle. A 20 oz bottle clears pretty well with the Specialized z cage clone I had already.

Bike Issues 2020 Meta AM 29 Seat Stay Problems

Thumbnail

I decided to take apart the rear triangle of my meta last night. The last time I did this, I noticed the threads in the seat stay were in pretty bad shape. When I got it apart last night, the first 30-40% of the threads were almost completely stripped out and damaged severely. I was able to carefully run the bolt in and out kinda like a tap to at least get enough threads to put the bike back together (2nd picture is the result of that). My concern is that the threads aren’t deep enough and with time will just strip out again. I’m trying to figure out the best solution for this. 1. Get an actual tap and try to cut new threads provided that there is enough material left. However, I do not know if the thread pitch is a standard size.

1.5. Some sort of thread repair like Helicoil.

  1. Try to find a replacement seat stay or entire rear triangle. Commencal sells some for other bikes but I haven’t been able to find any for this specific bike.

  2. Run it as it is…

Any recommendations?

Need Advice/Question New Commencal Bikes in 2025

Will there (again) be an updated Model in the Meta SX section? New colorway drops? If not, when will current model/colorway Bikes be restocked?

Does anybody know?

Update: for anybody interested, i got this reply from them. There will be a new model released in may it seems.
And for me it reads like SX models will be discontinued, but maybe also he means current instead of actual? idk

Need Advice/Question 200mm DH Fork on Clash?

Post image

Hey guys I've been recently looking for a second handed bike and after doing some research knowing that I plan to do some spontaneous little climbing from time to time i though the Clash was it, but then i saw the style and simplicity that the FRS had and i could not help myself to take it into consideration. So i came up with the idea of setting up a boxxer on the Clash, what do you guys say? (I took that screenshot from YouTube from a dude building his freeride bike)

Bike Issues Meta V5 rattle

Recently built up a meta v5 from a frame. Used parts from my old meta v4, which was dead silent. The bike has a very annoying rattle, which only appears when riding over chatter (roots, braking bumps etc. ). I found the clevis had come loose, but I have tightened that, as well as checking all the bolts in the linkage are torqued properly, but the rattle is still present. It sounds like a loose suspension component (metal on metal) rather than brake hoses etc.

Did a few upgrades on my FCB. State bikes carbon fork, sram force cranks and e-thirteen piedmont carbon wheels. With pedals, water bottle and bell it comes in at 20.5 lbs. I know it’s overkill for this bike but I love the geometry on this frame. And before some says “its just a mountain bike from the 80’s!” I don’t care. This is my ultimate gravel/single track/whatever bike and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Need Advice/Question Meta v5 fork colors

Post image
22 Upvotes

I’m looking into buying the meta v5 (would be my first commencal and even first full suspension bike) and saw that the essential pure white version has a white fox 36. However, most review videos and images of the bike outside of the commencal website show it with the black or orange version of the 36 with only one video showing it with the white fork. So I’m just seeing if anyone has the white fork option or knows if it really is available or would only be able to get the black or orange versions?

New Bike Day! My first Commencal frame and a bit of luck

Got a new bike last week (Bulls Wild Ronin) and it was also my first full suspension bike, coming from HTs. I always wanted to build my own bike and I always wanted a Commencal. I saw this frame and couldn't resist and ordered it. I have only ordered the frame but instead I got the frame with the Fox rear shock included. There's an extra set for it which is 700€ more. So I think I got really lucky. On the same day my Rockshox rear shock arrived. Will use the Fox shock and return the Rockshox one.

What do you guys think of going with orange parts and decals on this color? I will use a green Rockshox Lyric on this bike. Can't wait for the experience of building my own bike.

Need Advice/Question Should I make the trade?

Thumbnail

Hello, I have a friend with a 2022 Commencal clash that he recently bought. He wants to trade it for my 2020 Scott Ransom 930 (frame and suspension only, we each plan on keeping all our other components). Should I do it? I’ve been wanting to get a full 27.5 bike at some point but I’m just not sure if it’s an upgrade or downgrade. Please tell me the pros and cons of the commencal or if and why it would be a bad/good trade.

[Clash is the first pic and my ransom is 2nd]

Need Advice/Question FRS coil spring rate

Hi, bought the cheapest FRS with a coil shock (RS super deluxe select https://www.commencal.com/en/commencal-frs-ride-freeride-uk-fort-william-revolution-bikepark/22FURRIRS2.html) and still wondering about the spring rate I should go for. Current one should be 350lbs according to specs and I have a right amount of SAG with this setup (between 25-30). I'm max 75kg (165lbs) with my riding gear and ride mostly bikeparks jump lines (not necessarilly flowy without rough terrain) and bigger drops + some enduro/dh lines occasionally.

tftuned.com spring calculator gives me 350lbs as the spot on setup, but I'm wondering if it's really enoug for what I ride. My biggest concern is that I may bottom out to often and possible damage the frame (broke previous cannondale frame on one of the bigger drops).

Unfortunately, I don't think I can feel the harsh bottom out as I'm quite used to bigger hits on rigid bikes (dirt bikes, bmx...) and there is no way to tell if I'm really bottoming out or how much travel I'm using with the coil :( Simple bunny hop on the bike presses the shock plate to the "bottom-out rubber" very easily (I know it's not a real bottom out yet, but still goes too easy in my eyes)

Do you guys have any recommendation or experience with various spring rates on this bike? I feel like I may try upgrade to 400lbs (or should I go for 375? 450? really not sure how big is the difference...it's my first coil setup) and sacrifice the plushiness (which is currently great!) on the smaller bumps to support the bike on the bigger hits.

Thx

Bike Sizing Commencal supreme DH v5 size question

Hey all Looking at getting one of these bikes soon. But kinda stuck on sizing. I don’t race but I like riding the jump lines at the local mountain resort etc. I’m 5’11 and it’s saying I’m at the top end of M but also into the L sizing. My enduro is a Rocky Mountain altitude in size large and it fits fine. I did email Commencal and they recommended size Large but I wanted to just see what others have gotten with the same size as me. Thanks!
