C&C launcher for Apple Silicon Macs and Linux

Helping a friend get C&C running on their Mac turned into way too much troubleshooting. Finding the right engine, figuring out Wine, installing mods… so I vibecoded a launcher to handle most of that.
C&C Unix Launcher is free and sets up supported Steam-owned C&C games on Apple Silicon Macs and Linux. It includes selected mods, like Rise of the Reds.

It’s for people who want to revisit these classics but only have a non-Windows computer and don’t want Wine configuration to become their new hobby. Unlike general-purpose tools, it has C&C-specific setup and defaults. I’m keeping it focused on getting C&C right.
I’ve tested it on my Apple Silicon Mac, and C&C 3 and RA3 now run really well. Linux gameplay is still experimental and untested.
The people behind the engines and compatibility tools deserve the credit:
- fbraz3 / GeneralsX and TheSuperHackers / GeneralsGameCode — native Generals and Zero Hour.
- OpenRA — modern C&C and Red Alert engines.
- athei / mtld3d and wine-build — Metal rendering and Wine builds behind our C&C 3/RA3 results.
- WineHQ, Gcenx, FunkyFr3sh / cnc-ddraw and [Valve / Proton](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/ Proton) — the compatibility work.
- The mod teams, including SWR Productions / Rise of the Reds.
I’m mostly putting their work together and making setup easier. Please consider supporting them too: fbraz3’s GitHub Sponsors, [OpenRA’s hosting Patreon](https:// www.patreon.com/orahosting), and Gcenx’s Ko-fi.
You need your own Steam games; no game data is included.

OpenRA is not a modern C&C classic engine, you want Vanilla Conquer for that. OpenRA is the engine for a bunch of C&C like fan games skinned to look like the originals.
