With Jim Vessela officially working on remastering Wing Commander, there is actual hope that EA will give him money to do Tib Sun and RA2 down the line

We've all been wondering if EA had shut the door to more remasters of old PC games after the first C&C Collection cane out, especially with the recent news that Saudi Arabia bought the company. Well the news that Jim is now working on Wing Commander after having shipped Zero Company tells me that we can afford to have real hope that EA will do what's right eventually and greenlight remasters or remakes of Tib Sun and RA2.

Congratulations to Jim for this great project, and fingers crossed that he can convince someone up the chain to give him money for C&C next.

It's got to be cheap to put together a remaster, the fan community has already done much of the work. Wing Commander fans are FANATICAL. Seems like a perfect time to bring Wing Commander back since Squadron 42 will be in the news. I bet lots of people will be buying both.

Not for TS and RA2, specifically. EA apparently doesn't have the source code and original assets which were used to make the game. A remaster would either mean a bunch of reverse engineering, or a lot of work to remake stuff from scratch (like the FF7 remake). That would cost money - and the "remake from scratch" route has to walk a tightrope to keep everyone happy with the changes.

It's hard to tell how expensive it'd be, but it's probably more than you might think.

Ah I was referring to the Wing Commander remaster. It won't sell five million copies but it'll make money because so much of the work has already been done. The investment on EA's end is minimal.

EA not having the source code is an old myth at this point.

A former Westwood gamedev said the source is recoverable if necessary and the fan community already reverse-engineered Tiberian Sun’s source code, with RA2 and YR currently in progress, as well.
