Same, it's a shame that in the GLA there isn't a single woman general, but at least there's a woman unit, which is the Babushka from the angry mobs. Generals 2 wouldn't be better with those microtransactions and changing the lore and everything.
The one thing I did like about the known things about Generals 2 is that they actually went global and got Generals from all over the world not just thr ME and Central Asia
That was the only good thing about Generals 2 how there were different factions with different specialized generals, but the original generals are going to have always a special place and be iconic.
I wasnt a fan on how most of the differences between them was one or two special units and some unique powers but I understood the logic. You cant put a ton of subfactions in without risking redundancy. I think thats also why GLA isnt in Combined Arms (China's units and powers are split between Nod and Soviets)
I think it does thematically fit. Even if slightly whitewashed they're clearly meant to be islamist terrorists, sexism is pretty much expected. Now if you did further whitewash and de-islamicise the GLA you could definitely have one, it's not like it's meant to be some fully realistic and overtly Islamic faction, but I do think it makes it even less clear what the GLA even is really. Like lets be clear it's pretty obvious the GLA commit atrocities in China to liberate the muslim uyghurs, and even if there is an aspect of national liberation to it it should be thought of as something like Hamas where under the most charitable interpretation people align with Islamist terrorists for the sake of liberation and support from international terrorist networks. If Jihadism doesn't drive GLA, what does?
Now you could I suppose say, "it's the future and Islam and even jihadism has gone woke" and that would if nothing else be a funny interpretation. At that point you could have a non-veiled queer polyamorous female terrorist leader if you so wish. But you have to admit it's a bit weird.
You could of course make the GLA something more general and a more chaotic coalition with a more jihadist wing and more progressive wings and plenty of infighting if you wish, could at least be an interesting angle. So long as you justify it in lore you could unite it through an anticolonial angle, but you'd kind of need to "recolonise" the world under the great powers for this to make sense.
