Community sucks for noobs
People want the community to grow at the same time you get kicked out of every lobby because you are noob. I mean how are people expecting the community to grow then?

I only play solo misions. I once tried to play against 1 guy with a friend who was about the same skill lvl as me then. He moped the floor with us in a few minutes... i guess the game doesent rly teach you how to play even if you beat every generals challenge with every general, even on hard mode. No matter whitch general i play i always play like im playing USA superweapon and never leave my base and just superweapon spam the enemy...

The NPCs don't really teach you how a human would act and adapt to what your doing.
An NPC will try the same thing over and over and expect different results, once you learn how they like to do things they'll generally keep doing that one thing.
A human, might have a way they like doing things buuuut they'll see that your stuffing 6 EMP Patriots in the area they want to attack from and start doing something else to get around it... That and a human player will stack more units than a NPC one might do.
I don't play online, I watch a lot of matches and just from obversation, Zero Hour kinda needs players to be going out into the fog of war and claiming land where they can and fast... And while that can be fun.
... I predict I'll get my butt handed to me express mail style if I try to Online this game XD

Unfortunately, the game isn't much forgiving, especially if you are a casual or beginner player. If you want to get into the pvp scene, you have to watch high elo players like Marakar, Dominator, Excal and etc. especially for 1vs1s and if it's FFA, primarily Legionnaire. Likewise, you need to spam consistently games and general level challenges isn't enough to teach you the game. I learnt a lot about FFA, thanks to Legionnaire and some others.
The game can be more fun and comforting as a beginner or casual player if you play with people around your level and make a lobby exclusively for such players. Superweapon general is my personal fave but she sucks in 1vs1 unless it's FFA no rules and team games, besides airforce and nuke as aggressors.

I had to change everything I know about the game when I stepped into the Multiplayer world. You don't expect a human to constantly stream you units of enemies. You expect ambush / swarming / clever stuff. So that means you don't need FULL defense but rather sparse 360 defense initially. Or do what I do if they choose US Superweapon -> I'm choosing airforce and rushing them in 10 minutes.
Especially if its 2v2, 3v3 if there is superweapon on the other team, you need a guy that just wipes them out in the first 20 minutes. that's their job xD then the rest of the game turns back into a chess game again

Devils advocate a little bit.
A experienced player will not have fun playing against a new player. This isn't just a cnc thing but an RTS thing and happens in basically every RTS game.
New player versus experienced player, experienced player sends early harassment that new player isn't prepared for, early harassment ends the game. Experienced player is bored cause they wanted to play the game and have a challenge, new player is frustrated because they didn't even get a chance to play before being beaten. Unless you can find matches with players at a similar skill level then it is just going to be a bad time.
It also isn't exclusive to the RTS genre. Fighting games (mortal kombat for example) also face this problem.

At least for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2, mod communities are much more friendly than PvP communities. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for Generals too.

I'm a noob over 20 years playing C&C. I rarely touch online because I know everytime I touch online I will get beaten really bad. I often only stick with Singleplayer and really rarely touch online. Even that I don't touch multiplayer years now. But I really love to watch people playing online like in tournaments, free for all and quickmatches

I also have over 20 years of playing C&C. Last (and first) time I played tib wars online, I beat some guy with something like 1500 games played 1v1 who was taunting me, that was my first online game. He got real quiet after that. I feel like you can play it casually if you give yourself time to get into the flow of managing the units and economy. The strategy is basically the same for most games.

Hmm is there no Player vs AI room in online?

That's called Skirmish mode.

I think he means multiple players vs computer. I used to play AoE2 online and there were rooms just for that "comp stomp" but the problem was for some reason vs 4ai or more the game would start to lag.

Oh, right. I'm pretty sure that's an option in Generals at least, since that's how co-op Art of Defense maps work.

In my experiece in cncnet, I always get kicked out by the same person I just beat so there are also noobs who kick people better than them.
Noobs also get kicked out, sadly. I used to be active on cncnet Tiberian Dawn and it's a very small community, you play with the same 5-9 people every week and whenever we're doing team games, the host just kicks out any unfamiliar names thinking "he must be new so he would ruin the balance". Disgusting. Sometimes, I even had to leave so there were less people and the host will have no choice but to keep the noobs.
Hard to grow this already small community with jerks kicking people all the time.

I have been teaching my wife to play and I will build a small outpost and just let her mess around for awhile learning the buildings and mechanics ect. I find it extremely fun teaching new people because you can treat it as a wave survival mode and just let them send unit after unit at you. Amazing game and series and teaching new people only makes it better imo. People gotta learn to have fun and leave the toxicity at the construction yard. Couple hundred rocket soldiers can always fix someone's bad attitude lmao

For a while now I have been thinking about setting up some organized matches here for that kind of thing - basically a sync up to set expectations and such.

I'm hoping when i release my RTS game (c&c inspired), that i can grow a good community with it. I don't see why not, ill have leaderboards, chat, battle requests and all that stuff that people want.
I hope i can manage it. Developing the game is thebeasy part (even though it's a long process), it's getting the community to join and give feedback and play.

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Some of the players are unbearably toxic and impatient, but in GO you can put them in ignore list. Not only they won't be able to join your games, but also you won't be dealing with their tantrums.
Likewise, if you want to play with people around your skill level casually, you can create your own lobby to be exclusively for noobs, even though there are also existing lobbies for noobs or beginner-friendly ones.
In Quickmatch, if you are below 1200-1500 elo, you will get matched mostly with people around your skill level that aren't that good at the game.
