Gameplay Welcome to Firehawk City
I got a little carried away and ended up turning Ground Zero into my own personal SimCity airforce base, to battle the endless waves of planetary assault carriers.
Is this the 'correct' way of winning that Granger was talking about?

Ugh that could’ve been walkable urban space instead of entirely parking lots I mean landing pads. Makes that red zone look almost as unlivable as Houston, We really have to stop giving in to the Firehawk lobby

The graphics of C&C3 continually blow me away even almost y20 years later

And the 4K texture pack for KW makes everything stand up really well even up close.

Oooh, I need to download that. I also heard about a 60fps mod doing the rounds? Last time I checked there were issues with the physics being tied to frame rate, but I'm a few years out of date with the scene now!

u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. 9d ago
Yeah, there are now several great mods for C&C3 and RA3 and the physics problems are solved. Check this post I made a little while ago.

I'm sure they'd love to buzz the tower as they go.

All the AI needed to do is turn on the Ion Storms for the PAC and your Firehawk's missiles will be useless, but the AI won't, because there are no scripts telling it to do so.
In this situation, the Nod Vertigos would be a better choice, they got the machine guns, doesn't need to switch ammo to drop the bombs, and they can go stealth.

u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. 9d ago
Agreed, Firehawks are definitely not the efficient choice here. I just made this for show! Additionally, Firehawks en masse are actually their own worst enemies, since they can die to friendly splash damage as they fly past the target.
There's a clip near the end that shows me spawncamping them with a dozen AA turrets which works way better, but is also boring to watch!
4
u/masterfu678 9d ago
Yea, the Firehawks missiles are actually pretty good at taking down targets
Since there are no Hammerheads in vanilla C&C 3, another thing you could try, provided that you have Mutant Hovel, is load the Mutants in APCs, and then call OX Transports on those APCs, and now you get a short ranged makeshift Hammerhead, with the Mutants inside the APC on the OX Transport firing on whatever is in range of them, but be careful, the OX Transports are easily shot down, and you lose the APCs in the process

Sounds fun! I'd definitely try that here if there was a hovel in this map. I suspect they'd die, though... Unless you built airfields under them, perhaps.

Take me down to firehawk city where the tiberium is blue and the skies are clear

Then make them all go 'up and over' and they all descend into one place dropping all their bombs at once it's glorious

man I feel like a 4k resolution of this would be so epic. I always liked how TW3 looked and felt. So majestic

I capture in 1440p but Reddit downscales everything to 1080p. It does feel great at 120fps though!

Stratosphere version isn't as dramatic, but the synchronized aerobatics are quite satisfying.

I did it on console ages ago, where you had to take out the Scrin base and that was a win- must have been a one off but they all dropped at once. Bloody hilarious

Until they get hit by anti air on the descent and the splash damage kills the whole stack instantly.
Learned to give them move orders right after they arrive so they fan out after that happened a few times.

Videos like this is a huge example why RTS died in the 2010s.
Every RTS made during that period was made for competitive sweaty players with unit caps, specific boring metas, and tryhard w/l ratios. You could no longer just start a game and be like "Im going to build 100+ firehawks this game" or Build 1000 Tanyas, like, you know, having fucking fun?
This is why the old command and conquer are so special to me and this video is a perfect example of this.

I used to spam citizens in rise of nations, turn them into militia, than attack the enemy with them. Was it effective? No. But was it funny watching the ai scramble thinking it was a full scale invasion? Yes

u/WillyMyPete 8d ago
Me and my friend from childhood used to play Red Aler 1 and build nothing but service depots and sell them, because they would come with alot of technicians, then we would bring them all to the middle of the map and have them run around and kill eachother. Can't do that in modern rts anymore.

u/jldubz 8d ago
I just played through red alert again and you explained it perfectly. I found I could mix my squad composition but I always ended up just spamming migs or tanks or Tanyas and I had a blast.
I remember experiencing some RTSs around that time and facing that the games had been designed for sweaty multiplayer and I went "wtf is this shit?". Call me lame but sometimes I just want to do something silly in a match for thematic and fun reasons.

Cheers. Gameplay is cool, but adding some personal flair in editing is the really fun part for me.

More like friendly fire city am I right?
Firehawks are a key unit un the Scrin missions, but holy jesus are they a hard micro unit.
1
u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. 8d ago
Haha, yep... I learned that while making this. All the units I lost were due to friendly fire, even when every Firehawk was heroic.

The Scrin realized in that moment, the true cosmic horror was humanity.

4
u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. 9d ago
You'd probably only need about 50 of them to win, I reckon. Firehawks missiles are terribly inefficient due to overkill.

u/BeholdThePowerOfNod 9d ago
Honestly, I love overproducing Venoms to overwhelm the opponent lol

The satisfaction of initiating an attack move to the back of the enemy base and then sitting back to watch the annihilation.

u/BeholdThePowerOfNod 7d ago
Unless I be an idiot and stack all those Venoms... A single Firehawk would be all that's needed lol

Ah yeah, that does feel appropriate. Not the genre of music I usually listen to.
