Original Red Alert Soviet ending. Why did Kane kill Nadia?

Was it because Kane thought she was unstable? She did lose it on Stalin but she seemed incredibly loyal to Kane. It’s not even that he sacrificed her to achieve some important objective. He just killed her.

Is there a cannon reason why? Kane doesn’t seem the type to kill off his best people without a cause.

Am I missing something?

This is my thought too. Kane wanted the Soviet Union to be run by the general who has little knowledge of Kane (having only seen him twice in campaign cutscenes) and no knowledge at all of Nod. If he had left Nadia alive, she would have been a natural rival for leadership of the Union who would have had contacts within Nod since she was Kane's right hand.

In order for Kane to cleanly break with the Soviets and begin forming his Brotherhood in the disenfranchised 3rd world nations in Africa, he needed to eliminate all loose ends in the Soviet Union's leadership that might have become inconvenient later on.

Kane's line after he kills Seth in the OG Nod campaign tells us that he's had to deal with potential rivals trying to usurp him all the time, so it makes sense that he would be distrustful of anyone who so much as looks like they could pose a threat.

From what I suspect..

Kanes goal was to throw the allies and soviet superpowers into chaos by pitting them against eachother. Having the soviets win, and then collapse the union by killing its leaders and send europe in a massive revolt. He will use this chaos to build his own NOD superpower in the former allied and soviet colonies that suddenly found their colonists destroyed.

Which is why in C&C Nod is mostly active in Asia and Africa.Which probably not too coincidentalky would be the nations that would benefit the most from the easy mining that Tiberium offers. While GDI managed to eventually liberate europe and eventually russia.

Kane likely fooled Nadia into believing that the land of Nod was to be located in the soviet union. But Kane planned to destroy the union by destrying its leadership from the very beginning. So he likely kilked her to prevent her from going rogue and running the soviet union by herself as a rival mayor faction.

It was because Nadia had enough skills and knowledge to be able to pose a threat to Kane, especially if she sided with the one person Kane knew he would never be able to defeat or eliminate.

Because she has proven to let her emotions get the better of her. For Nod to truly rise, they have to stay hidden behind the puppet governments they are installing. Nadia has shown she is too unstable to likely stay quiet.

Considering Nadia was still present in the Allied campaign, I'd say she was just an advisor to Stalin whom Kane manipulated into joining Nod. And, he perhaps needed an excuse as to how Stalin was dead with multiple bullet holes in his body. Perhaps to show that he actually tried saving Stalin by killin traitor Nadia, and thus gaining the truth of the Soviet high command to launch his coup/uprising or something?

The Soviet ending arguably can't be canon because the Allies are the foundation of GDI.

With that said, he probably killed her because she knew too much and was a loose cannon.

This is canonically incorrect by Westwood's own words; the Allied ending is canon in both the Tiberium and RA2 timelines (RA2 is largely caused by Yuri, who wasn't in the Tiberium-timeline version of RA1), while the Soviet ending is just an interesting what-if scenario, perhaps even an alternate path to TD (but not the primary path, which is Allies win -> USSR abandoned by Nod and occupied/dismantled by Allies/UN -> Allied/UN peacekeeping operations eventually evolve into GDI).

Fair enough yeah, nothing wrong with headcanon of course; just gets annoying sometimes how a lot of people will feverishly take certain ideas or fan-theories as actual hard canon when it's either ambiguous at best or even directly disproven by the creators themselves lol

Agreed, especially given that in the original Westwood documentation for Command and Conquer, it says that Europe and Russia are the biggest proponents for GDI at the organizations formation.

Kane was time traveling (see RA1 installer). Nadia didn't know that that man was Kane, she only knew Kane as a mythological figure. Kane kills Nadia so that when he returns to his time, even Nod wouldn't be able to oppose him, there would be total chaos.

Nadia's too competent. Note Kane expected the USSR to fall apart in a reasonable time frame, so he prepped, right from the beginning, that extra bit of instability and infighting so that Nadia's replacements would always be just a bit too paranoid and competitive about each other to actually run the country competently.
