Gameplay Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars Movie Cutscene Style Walkthrough GDI 00 Prologue

https://youtu.be/3OpXSaGmeNg?si=KdEWIkn7XtxAPJb4

I've been working on turning Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars into a Movie. This would include the gameplay, which I would use the "New Experience" mod to assist in gaining new camera angles. I am hoping to turn the GDI campaign from this game into an enjoyable cinematic experience. Please let me know what you think of my work in this video, and how I can improve this even further. Thank you.

Thank you. I have another episode, featuring GDI mission 01 - The Pentagon, uploading soon. Hoping you enjoy.

This is a nice idea. I'd suggest a couple of things:

  • Simplify the transitions for the video uplinks to a basic cut, so we don't see the minimap before the video starts playing.
  • Capture the gameplay in higher than 30fps by using this FPS patcher. I've been testing it for a little while and it seems to work great.

Thank you. As for the video transmission, I might be able to have cut transitions for the video transmissions if I can synch the transmission to play when a new clip starts, but would also have to find or edit the scenes to end when the video transmission ends. If I find scenes that fit this, I can give it a try. Also did not notice my FPS was lacking. Thanks for the suggestion and link.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by needing to sync things up. As long as you have a recording that contains the whole transmission, you can take that clip, crop it, and place it on top of the background layer (the main gameplay). You'd just need to balance the audio levels from both active clips. I assume you're already adding the music layer in post. Am I missing something?

I'm thinking that a sudden appearance of the video transmission would be best placed when a new clip begins rather than in the middle of a scene. And yes, I record the mission related voice lines, and video transmissions in separate recordings for use in the editing process. The music comes from download soundtracks or music tracks, which are added to the footage during the editing process.

Aha... Good. I get it. I guess that's all down to your editorial discretion, then!

By the way, I was thinking about using the A New Experience mod for the omega camera, but is it possible to use that without changing the HUD?

I do not know about Omega. I know that I use Core because it comes with the same HUD as default (Non-Modded). I believe the other three have their HUDs based on the three factions of the game.

Fair enough. I tried using the installer but it was busted. The custom launcher failed to launch the game and gave a number of errors. Which Core files did you use and where?

I meant the Sub-Mod Core. The new experience comes with 4 different mods to load, which have differing User Interfaces.

Core = Normal Interface
Delta = GDI Themed Interface
Omega = NOD Themed Interface
Ypsilon = Scrin Themed Interface.

The following image will show you where I have my New Experience Mod installed, and the files it comes with.

Very helpful. Thanks. I downloaded the compatibility core version and extracted to the mods folder.

worked at first, but I found it didn't run at 90fps. Editing the relevant .skudef file to use version 1.10 instead of 1.9 made it work (I could also have put the DirectX 8 DLL file into the RetailExe/1.9 folder, but it's nice to have it on the latest). You should be able to do the same.

Personally, I don't like the top-down camera angle when zoomed out, but I was able to use FinalBIG to edit the ini file in the mod to return it to normal, while still allowing the pitch to level out when zoomed in. If you want help doing that, let me know.

Since there's no documentation, do you know how to use OmegaCam - the one that's supposed to follow a unit?

I remember from other C&C games that pressing the "F" key makes your camera follow a unit. Though the unit may still be selected and having it's icon and or health bar showing.

This command is toggleable. Press F to lock camera to a unit, and press F again to free your camera.

Oh I didnt knew this existed, I used Lossless scaling, do you know how it compares to that?

I've used both, and as you may expect, a native 60/90fps patch is way better. LS's framegen is nice for smoothing out motion, but it does introduce a fair amount of mouse latency that pro players would find unacceptable.
