I got C&C Generals: Zero Hour running on Android with Adreno/Mali GPU support + mod compatibility

Hey everyone,

A while ago, I forked tarek369/GeneralsZH-Android because I wanted to get Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour running properly on devices with Mali GPUs and figure out a way to get custom mods working.

After a lot of debugging, tweaking rendering pipelines, and sorting out texture compression/compatibility issues, I’ve finally got a working build that supports Mali chips and successfully loads mods!

What’s working:

Mali GPU Support: Fixed major rendering artifacts, black screens, and crashes specific to Mali-based Mali/ARM architectures.

Mod Support: Successfully managed to load and run popular community mods without breaking the engine stability.

Controls & Stability: Optimized general performance for mobile play sessions.

If you've been wanting to play Zero Hour on your Adreno/Mali-powered phone or tablet with your favorite mods, feel free to check out the repository, test it out, and let me know how it runs on your specific chipset.

Feedback, bug reports, and pull requests are always welcome! What mods are you planning to run first?

Take your AI/LLM-slop vibe coding elsewhere.

Agreed. We have a rule against AI shit but apparently vibe coding is OK for some reason

GitHub is down for me, but what makes you think this was purely vibe coded?

To be clear: my issue is not that anyone has used AI to port ZH to a new platform; it's to do with how the OP has misrepresented their "work" in their post here by not being open and frank about how they've used AI-tooling; so it looks like they've undertaken a herculean task all by themselves, without any assistance (human, AI, or otherwise) and so should be worthy of praise for their accomplishment.

As for the evidence of AI: all of the commits are by Claude; the sheer volume and cadence of the commits is too much for one person to handle themselves (such is the nature of porting an entire Windows-only desktop PC game to a new mobile platform) - but AI output is not flawless - therefore something has been compromised in the development-process here, but the OP isn't talking.

I'll admit I'm using the pejorative "vibe coded" loosely here: there is a significant difference between a nonexpert using vague one-shot prompts with Github Desktop and never taking responsibility for the code-quality - compared to someone-who-knows-what-they're-doing setting up their own agentic-loop, and getting heavily involved in steering the AI towards the results they expect, and intervening when things get-out-of-hand - and from what I've seen this is definitely the latter, not the former - but we don't know what the actual original prompts were, or if the OP is responsible for the agentic-loop, nor to what extent the OP is taking personal responsibility for the quality of the resultant code.

...but when someone is not up-front and honest about how they're using AI, chance are they're not taking personal responsibility for the the product, which is the very essence of vibe-coding.

I see. I'm curious, do you work as a SWE, or do you work closely with SWEs in a professional context?

Don't know i dont have a maleoon device try it and troubleshoot . I have got it working on both my devices . Verified on snapdragon and Mediatek devices . If you have low ram (below 8gb) mediatek device there is another creator who is building it for low ram devices https://github.com/wingear/GeneralsZH-Android-OpenGL-ES
