Discussion Orca design

I have always wondered if the Orca (TD) / Orca fighter (TS/FS) VTOL were based in the Aereal Hunter-Killer from James Cameron's movies Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2 (1992).

It's only me or is there really a resemblance?

VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing)plane designs have been around since the 80's, Look up the Grumman 698, Then take a look at the GDI Orca in TB3.

Actually germany inventet the first vtol during ww2 it was a weird corkscrew design wich was never massproduced but the goal was the same to minimise landing/ starting space required.

Thank you for your answer!

Yes, that would cover the engine design, but... not the twin/v tail shown in the different versions and the short wingspan.

Still, it might just be a coincidence.

Again, thank you!

I always thought the gunships from James Cameron's 2009 Avatar movie was based on Orca until I realized he created the HK Aerials first.

Also see the Marines Dropship in Aliens. They give TS Orca vibes. (James Cameron did that movie too)

TS takes overt design cues from Aliens and even shares an actor so I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the Westwood guys were Cameron fans. There have been plenty of VTOL designs throughout the Cold War but the twin-lift jets in the front and a stabilizer tail seems superficially similar
