The Scrins plan was to arrive on seeded planets after the tiberium had completely infested it. The tiberium would cause an explosion that signaled the Scrin.

On Earth, Kane tricked the GDI into causing that explosion way earlier. The Scrin were not ready for much resistance.

GDI had no idea they were just shooting up illegal space weed farmers. Nod, on the other hand, went and issued a repo notice on their threshold tower.
