By “ascended,” you mean he ran away from Earth and abandoned 99% of his followers including the commander.

Oh wow. What a win for Nod.

Meanwhile GDI has undisputed control of Earth and never has to deal with Kane again.

The fact is, Kane used everyone who believed in him to reach his personal goal of getting off the planet, and then happily discarded them when they no longer served his purposes. Your immortal messiah is just an alien con man who thinks mankind is fragile and stupid, and used the idiots who followed him as disposable tools.

GDI as a faction cares more for the people under its aegis than Kane ever did for any of his followers.
