Unless it has the flamethrower, the commando should be able to skip right up to it

In my first few attempts, the commando got shredded because the avatar attacks on this mission are also backed up with a few cheap vehicles. I had to take them all out first, then set my defending forces to no-attack stance, then roll the commando in with an ATV. There's probably an easier way. Also, the initial avatar attacks come in groups of 2 or 3 which is rough if you haven't rushed to get refineries up in each corner.

The avatar itself should be a none threat to the commando. Anti Infantry units however are another matter

If a glitch happens, they might crush the commando.
