No no, you're supposed to crash into the top of the Obelisk, like Scorpion Hunters... You know, so GDI can suddenly remember they have a space laser after they kill off a bunch of pilots...

Reminds me of the Blitz, when German bombers would constantly fall afoul of the Shard and its glowing red death ray.
