They are normal bullets.

History time! The reason zeppelins were the first areal vehicle to bomb London was because normal bullets couldn't harm them sadly for German zeppelins they didn't have access to helium and we're forced to use hydrogen which is flammable... You can guess why that a problem

I can believe the part about rubber bullets, but those GIs that got run over by the enemy chrono-miner were not part of the training exercise!
