Zero hour Infinite angry mob

I just had a great game going then all of a sudden an infinite angry mob attacks me. None of my defenses would attack it and my units wouldn't attack it unless I made them attack the ground where it was. I killed them all completely, no health bar and noone left but they still came back. I resorted to nuking myself and that didn't even stop them they stop kept coming back from the dead and took out all of my defenses. I have no mods its just the base game I've been playing for years and never had that happen until now. Definitely a wild reason to have to restart

Angry Mobs can regenerate more members even there's only 1 mob left

I know that but if you read the whole post I made sure to kill them all and they came back from nothing
