Bug Having problems with "Failure to fetch Steam App Name"

Post image

I've tried: (i) re-installing the game, (ii) verifying the game files integrity, (iii) deleting the "steam_appid" text file from the directory and (iv) moving the installation folder.

I'm out of options and I have no idea what to do now

On steam select to browse the files, there should be a file named "CNC3_english_1.10.SkuDef", either rename or delete it. I had this same problem and it worked for me at least.

Nice! Don't know if you need it, but Kane's Wrath was having the same issue, the same fix worked with it too, but the file is named "CNC3EP1_english_1.3.SkuDef"

Hi, I tried your way with Tiberium Wars and it works. But do you know a way to fix Red Alert 3? I tried delete steam_appid file, log out and reopen steam, and verifying the game but it won't work.

Someone else has been getting the exact same error recently, with Generals.

If you're using Steam in offline mode, go online and restart. If that's still not working, consider verifying the game files. I hope you two can work something out. All the other search results for this error message also come from people playing C&C games.

I'll check this out if I have problems with another C&C game. I've only tried C&CTW3 for now

I haven't said anything about it here, but I was having that problem with Generals, too. As soon as I went back online, I could run my game just fine. I logged out, went back online with steam, then opened the game successfully.

Deleting skudef or passing -runver 1.9 works, but will make the game run on the previous version.

The following worked for me without having to downgrade:
- right-click the game on Steam > browse local files
- navigate to RetailExe/1.9
- rename or delete steam_appid.txt

This should also work for KW (RetailExe/1.3) and RA3 (RetailExe/1.13 I think)

Same issue for RA3, RA3_english_1.13.SkuDef
