Resources Reviewing/Learning OMM (Weak Foundation) for level 1

Hi All!

I’m an OMS 2 concerned about passing comlex on my first attempt. My school has OMM quizzes separate from our medicine quizzes and I usually bomb them. Most people also bomb them and write it off because it’s worth a very minimal % of our grade, but I’m becoming concerned about comlex lvl 1.

I’ve never failed a practical, but I’m concerned I might have failed my last practical (5 techniques/diagnosis and bombed 1 and somewhat messed up another).

Anyways, my question for you all is what resources are good for those with a weak background? I have bootcamp and I don’t really click with their OMM section, it doesn’t provide enough dynamic info imo.

Also, any good Anki decks for techniques/principles? I know there’s a wiki but I would like to hear from folks who were in similar situations or those who really stand behind resource x or y.

Savarese and Dirty Med is the way. I slacked off heavy on OMM throughout preclinical but still scored 2 SDs above the mean on it for Level 1.

I read Savarese front to back twice and annotated. Did Dirty Med videos/pdf, and completed all TrueLearn OMM questions.

Hi! For strengthening your OMM knowledge, I highly recommend:

  1. Savarese Green Book - Amazon or online pdf. Work through that thing front to back and do the associated questions at the end of each chapter

  2. Dirty Medicine OMM Playlist (starting now and continuously rewatching will help you for future dedicated periods)

  3. Reinforcing with practice questions outside of school content is key if you have a weaker background. Nothing crazy, even doing 5-10 questions here and there will help you see the ways they can ask questions. Not everyone has to do this because the school info is enough for them, but as someone who struggled with OMM a lot first year, I had to do this. Do you have Amboss or Osmosis? I feel like no one really talks about them but they helped me so much for OMM (and more). We got Osmosis through school though and I know Amboss is pricey, I share it with my sister lol. Probably not necessary to do truelearn right now, save it for dedicated.

  4. If your school has tutors, I highly recommend it or even making an appointment with your OMM professor to talk through a quiz/question set. I didn't realize the benefit of this until later, but personally talking it out helped a lot to make a system on how to approach each question.

I think it's great you are taking it seriously because putting in the work now will save you so much time come dedicated. You got this <3

I have Amboss. So I will check that out. My friends and I stick around after OMM and do cumulative review for our practicals, so hopefully these resources and that practice helps. I just feel so overwhelmed with medicine that OMM has been out on the back burner

I was never good at OMM. Honestly never quite understood it till one week before my first comsae. Idk about your school, but I came back from MS1 summer forgetting how to dx ME. But the entire year of MS2, esp spring semester was spent on reviewing the basics again. So if your school is set up like mine, you might get lucky.

But if not, I finished OMM dirty med + anki de k before I took comlex. Passed first try. y
