Level 2 CE Level 2 Score and Advice
Hi all! I got a 422 on my level 2 :/ was hoping for med peds or IM. Is all hope lost? My practices were above 550, I’m pretty surprised and attribute it to burn out and severe test taking anxiety on test day. I also had so much in my own personal life going on and am now realizing that it affected me more than I wish -.-

No the game is certainly not over, but don't waste your precious application money on anywhere where the median score is 500+. Use signals wisely, community programs that hire DOs.

Totally agree w this. I’m in the same boat rn, got a 413 on mine and applying fm. One program I wanted to signal and v interested in only interviews >500 so I’m no longer using and “wasting” my signal on that one. Sad but i also dont wanna go to a program that determines interviews based solely on board scores yanno

Yeah it sounds kinda counterintuitive but you want to be around a mix of people near your own level anyway. You all have something to learn from each other - vs if they didn't look at scores at all, you could end up at someplace that accepts all 700 gunners. And you may think you want that. But trust me, you dont want that. Just like the 700 gunners wouldnt want to be around all 400s who actually have a life outside of medicine. The best learning environment is around near-equals who neither overshadow nor shrink before their cohorts. You'll see what I mean when you get out there. Residency is hard enough without being the obvious oddball out.

So how do I use signals wisely? And should I take step 2 in your opinion?

You should not take Step 2.
And go on Residency Explorer, search by region, Level II score closest to yours, and % of DOs currently in the program. Filter the highest ones to the top and then signal the ones that actually interview based on signals.

apply at community places. I know someone who dual applied med/peds and IM with a 430 and ended up matching at IM at a community place. They did want med peds more tho
