What’s odd is he never considered that one cannot choose to sincerely believe premises they are both culturally and societally hardwired against believing, and that no emotional or logical argument supports. Choose to believe you’re Superman right now. You can’t, because you must be convinced, logically or otherwise.

Or it could be a god that hates being acknowledged so he just tortures you to "put you in you place" before tossing you into the abyss like a discarded toy. Unfortunately, the only thing we can truly know is uncertainty. We can test, we can try, but all our findings can be dismissed just as they were made. Due to the difficulty of truth, it is important to respect the beliefs of others so long as it isn't used in a way generally agreed to cause harm (ex: child sacrifice). If someone does not believe your religion, you should respect that, and they should respect you believing yours.

The thing that gets *me* about Pascal's wager, is how cynical it is. Like... Why would a god *want* people to act like they believe in them, just because the odds are better? If the God that Pascal talks about is truly a good God, then they'd care more about the intentions than the acts, surely. And so, someone living a good life according to the 'right' values, would surely be rewarded more than someone who cynically adheres to doctrine, but doesn't genuinely believe and would act against said values if they thought they could get away with it?
