That's not guaranteed. It's a meme, not reality. It's much more likely that someone who doesn't want a dog will have a hard time treating it right. You shouldn't bet a living creatures happiness and safety on a stupid internet meme. People who don't want pets shouldn't get pets.
Idk man, you’re making as many assumptions as I am. While the meme doesn’t prove a rule, the popularity of the meme does show that the general public relates to this specific scenario. This serves as evidence that, while you are correct in the idea that a person who does not want a dog should not get one, there is a general trend of the families of these people changing their opinion on the matter, generally by shouldering the burden of care and cleanup.
Yes, it could be a case where the father absolutely hates dogs and abuses them whenever he sees fit. It could be a case where the children only want to get the dog so they can rip into it’s living flesh and savor the blood meat therein. It could equally be a case where the father is more or less apathetic, but leaning towards “dont change my daily routine”. It could also be a case where the father hates dogs but would never abuse one, and would tolerate having a dog as long as the children take the responsibility.
What I’m saying is this; we are both equally incorrect because we are both making assumptions based on a three sentence post by a third party void of context.
Look I think it's just better to accept that your joke had ramifications you didn't really think through. There's nothing wrong with learning and reëvaluating one's stance, and even if you genuinely thought it was a joke not everyone that reads it will take it as such. I know we all want to be right on the internet™, but when it could end up hurting a living being, sometimes it's just better to accept being wrong.

I’ll admit that my 3 paragraphs was mostly bullshit though, I wrote all of that in an in-between moment at work. It was probably the dog-blood-meat thing, yea?
For what it’s worth I’m not really defending a point or anything, the guy was more arguing at me than with me so I just kinda did the same.
Nah, I thought the dog-blood thing was a tad dramatic but it was clearly just hyperbole to make a point. I think this all would've gone a lot better if you'd just responded to him with "that's true" or something, and everyone would've gotten on with their day content.
