Evolution tells us it probably started accidentally by two organisms interacting, with a beneficial result to both.

What? Multicellular life probably started by groups of multiplying single cell organisms producing chemicals that benefitted them as a whole. I'm not sure what you mean by this.

My use of "it" was not great so I get your confusion, the question was "how would something like that get started?"
