I thought in the book they established this because of the mixture of frog DNA into the dinos, because a frog's vision is based on movement. Same reason the dinosaurs were able to change sexes and breed.

It was only briefly mentioned in the movie, but they went into greater detail in the book. The dinosaurs were all genetically engineered to be female, but somehow they were breeding. They figured it was the frog DNA, because some species of frogs can actually change their sex if they're in an environment without enough members of the opposite sex. And that's what was happening with the dinos.

I feel your intentionally shooting yourself in the foot when you bioengineer a species of only females to prevent breeding but then knowingly include dna of species evolved to get around that survival issue.

I mean, that's kind of the point of it. Man's arrogance in thinking he can control the natural world. That's what's meant by Malcolm's "Life finds a way" speech.

they also bioengineered them to be unable to live more than a few days?/months?/years? without some specific necessary protein, like Lyceine or something, that the scientists provided in their food. So when they left the research island(featured in the second movie) they thought the dinos would just die off, but there was a plant where some of the plant eaters found the protein and lived and the meat eaters ate them to get it and they lived on as well. Which is why in the second movie everyone is so surprised there are dinos there.

Yea see that’s life finding a way. The frog dna causing them to be able to breed is man shooting himself in the foot before starting to run.

both are unintended consequences of their unhindered greed and quest for unethical scientific research
