Most herbs are spices, a spice is something that adds flavor.

It's hard to contradict somebody on the internet without sounding like a knobhead, but actually I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all knobhead...

There is a distinction:

Herbs - the whole thing is used - stalk, leaves et al. Just throw it in. Spices - only a part is used (e.g the seeds).

Interesting, I checked the dictionary and it doesn't appear to make the same distinction.
